Sailors Shine at Western Slope

The Steamboat Springs High School girls tennis team has started their season on a high note, showcasing their talent and determination in recent matches.

The team's journey began at the annual Western Slope Open in Grand Junction this past weekend. Despite a rain delay on Friday, the girls made the most of their time on the court, delivering outstanding performances across various brackets. Lucia Del Haya and Abby Del Haya reached the singles finals in the A bracket, demonstrating their skill and teamwork. Dylan Quinn emerged victorious in the singles B bracket, while Lyla Baker and Leslie Jimenez secured the top spot in the A bracket, highlighting the depth of talent within the team.

Following their successful outing in Grand Junction, the girls returned to Steamboat Springs and continued their winning streak with a dominant performance against Ponderosa. The team swept all seven lines in straight sets, displaying their strength and cohesion as a unit.

Please be sure to congratulate our young tennis athletes on their accomplishments and Head Coach Jessica Powell and Assistant Coaches Jason Scicchitano, Karen Connell and James Mac for their leadership and coaching.
