Spring Into The Season’s Big Books

The spring outlook for 2023 has a lot of mystery, with some humor, history and romance thrown in. Some of the biggest names in publishing will have new books out this season, including James Patterson, Danielle Steel, John Sandford, Emily Henry and David Baldacci. The start of beach season reads kicks off with Elin Hilderbrand and Nancy Thayer.

Author Ties to the Library

On April 1st, 36 years ago, Scholastic published the book Jamie and the Mystery Quilt By Vicki Berger Erwin. Fun fact Vicki Berger Erwin used to serve as a treasurer for the Friends of The Kirkwood Public Library which even hosted an “author party” in her honor. She has continued to write even in the new decade, with some of her more recent book being 2021’s Notorious Missouri and A History Lover's Guide to St. Louis published this year.

I was able to go down this fascinating rabbit hole thanks to the preservation of the Friends of The Kirkwood Public Library newsletter in the Kirkwood Public Library Digital Archive.  You can also find other great resources on the Research Resources page of the library's website. Definitely worth a look if you’re interested in learning more about  history related to Kirkwood.

Vicki Berger Erwin will be presenting her newest book, A History Lover's Guide to St. Louis at the library on Saturday, May 13th at 2PM.

You Have an Art Gallery?

Yes! Kirkwood Public Library has an Art Gallery. Featuring local professional and amateur artists, the library has had the pleasure of displaying their art since 2014. Throughout the year, the Gallery exposes patrons to new art forms and ideas, to foster creativity and inspire curiosity, and to provide exhibition opportunities for the artistic community. The Art Gallery chair, Julia McDonald, actively markets the artist’s exhibit to increase public awareness. If you are interested in showing your art please submit an application and review our policy. The Art Gallery is located on the main floor of the library in the computer lab. Any questions, you may contact Julia at the reference desk, 314-821-5770 option 3 or jmcdonald@kirkwoodpubliclibrary.org.
