Library of Things Spotlight:

Board Games

The Kirkwood Public Library has many items you can borrow from books to movies, magazines to music. We also loan out a variety of non-traditional library items. We refer to these items as the Library of Things. Each month, we will be highlighting parts of this collection.

Featured in April are our collection of board games. Board games, in some form or fashion have been around for thousands of years. Many of us grew up on games like Monopoly and Sorry. Today, there are so many options it blows the mind.

So what to do when you have a game you want to try but are not sure it is worth the money? Maybe its your turn to pick for family game night and you are tired of the same old games. Well, fear not! Kirkwood Public Library has a selection of games both classic and new. So, why not stop on by and pick one out. We have board games such as:

  • Scrabble
  • Tacos v. Burritos
  • Labyrinth (one of this author's personal favorites)
  • Exploding Kittens
  • Apples to Apples

View our entire collection of board games here. And while our selection of board games is not comprehensive, we welcome suggestions for new additions to the collection. You can use the contact forms on our website to make a suggestion to the Technology dept.

Music in the Library

The St. Louis Vocal Project

Music in the Library is proud to present the St. Louis Vocal Project on Sunday, April 7th at 2 PM on the main floor of the library.

The St. Louis Vocal Project is a community-based women's chorus affiliated with Harmony Incorporated.  They sing a cappella music in the barbershop style. Harmony Incorporated's mission is to empower all women through education, friendship, and singing.

The St. Louis Vocal Project believes that harmony is more than a chord that rings.  Harmony is agreement - the bond that happens when talented women come together as a community, to celebrate internal calm and and a joyful spirit.  Harmony is balance and blend - vocally, emotionally and spiritually.

Pardon Our Dust

Library is currently replacing its HVAC system.

This project will occur over the next few months. As such, there will be times when certain areas of the library may become inaccessible and some services may differ from the norm. For example, the library meeting room and computers lab are unavailable for public use for the duration of this project.

During this time, we ask for your patience in order that we may continue providing the best library service to you!

Books & Beyond

Discover interesting facts about our communities in the Greater St. Louis area, through our selection of books and items. Both soft and hardcover books, as well as postcards and colorful key chains are available.

In addition, during your next visit browse the many Spring time gifts. Including new and favorite items. Our Craft group has handmade items including gift tags and bird nests along with their unique jewelry.

All proceeds benefit the Hot Reads program and the library.

Story Walk

Finding a safe, fun and educational activity that your whole family will enjoy may feel like a task. Leave it to the library, we've got the perfect idea!

Head over to Kirkwood Park to take a walk around Walker Lake where you can follow our Story Walk. A librarian has handpicked the book that you follow page by page around the lake until you've enjoyed a whole story and some exercise. Look for this story in April: Clovis Keeps His Cool by Katelyn Aronson.

And be sure to check out our new Story Walk in the front lawn of the Kirkwood YMCA. Look for this story in April: If You Plant a Seed by Kadir Nelson.
