Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day – a look at the diverse and prolific Irish authors who have contributed so greatly to the literary landscape.

Women’s History Month 2023

Here is a look at how women are using and have used their voices through their writing. Celebrate with these wonderful and engaging must-reads!

DNA Genealogy Series

Join us for Part 1 of this series as we learn about Using DNA in Genealogy, the types of DNA and the testing companies out there. Use DNA matches to help identify new cousins or parents missing in your direct genealogical line. This Sunday, March 12th at 2PM presentation is for those who haven't yet done DNA or don't know what to do once they have results. Presented by Carol Whitton, St Louis Genealogical Society.

Part 2 of the DNA Genealogy series is Could Your DNA Test Send a Family Member to Jail? on Saturday, March 18th, at 11AM. We have all seen cases in the news such as the 'Golden State Killer' where DNA leads in family tree databases have helped solve the case. Could your DNA be the next one to help solve a cold case? Could your DNA even lead someone to your own or a close relative's doorstep? This program will discuss DNA technology used in solving cases such as this as well as the broader context of solving cases using forensic science. Presented by Erik Hall, Director/Assistant Professor of Forensic Science, St. Louis University.

Preserving Family Documents And Photos

Join us on Sunday, March 26th at 2PM in the meeting room as Ilene Murray of the St. Louis Genealogical Society along with Reference desk librarian Sarah will highlight where and how you should store your family’s unique paper treasures. They will show you how to preserve those deteriorating family documents and photos. Learn more about proper preservation of paper heirlooms so you can protect your precious family inheritance. The Shotbox is funded by a grant provided by the KPL Staff Endowment.

Story Walk

Finding a safe, fun and educational activity that your whole family will enjoy may feel like a task. Leave it to the library, we've got the perfect idea!

Head over to Kirkwood Park to take a walk around Walker Lake where you can follow our Story Walk. A librarian has handpicked the book that you follow page by page around the lake until you've enjoyed a while story and some exercise. Grant Funds New AWE Computers!

Our new Early Learning Literacy Stations have arrived! We now have 4 Early Literacy Stations for ages 2-6 that feature fun games with favorite characters from books and cartoons.

These all have 75+ award-winning content titles. All content promotes learning through fun and is pre-loaded, creating a safe and easy-to-use learning environment. Content features e-books, writing, cyber safety, coding, and more! Come check them out!

"If you’re lucky enough to be Irish….you’re lucky enough." Visitors can find Irish themed books in our “SPECIAL” book section to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in March. No time in your schedule for a fantasy trip to Dublin, why not travel instead around St. Louis during the rainy days of March. Relive some unique history and discover interesting facts through our latest St. Louis book section, located on the book shelf below Biographies.
