VHSaaS Milestone!

When we started this service in 2017, we did not know how quickly it would catch on. Now, 5 years later we have hit a major milestone.

Thanks to all those who have brought us tapes to convert, we have officially reached 10,000 conversions!

We look forward to the next 10,000 and hope to see your continued use of the service. A way you can help us with this, is by donating old, working equipment you no longer need. We are always on the lookout for used equipment as the players we need are no longer manufactured new - specifically VCRs, 8mm/Hi8/Digital8 camcorders, and MiniDV camcorders. If you have any of these that you would like to discuss donating, please contact Nick O'Neal at noneal@kplmo.org or 314-821-5770 x 5.

Starting November 1st, Kirkwood Public Library will be working in conjunction with PCs for People to offer FREE Electronics Recycling through January 31st, 2023. Just look for the big blue bin near the public copier to drop off your old electronics!

What can you recycle? We’re accepting the following donations (working or not):

  • All Computers (PCs & Macs): Desktops, Laptops, All in ones, Flat Screen Monitors, & Docking Stations.
  • All Tablets: iPads (iCloud unlocked), Android, Microsoft Surface, Chromebooks
  • All Cell Phones: Smart phones, flip or brick phones, Android/iphone
  • Accessories: Mice and Keyboards, Cables and Cords (USB, VGA and DMI cords, Power cords), SD Cards, Laptop Batteries

All items must fit in the bin, so if the bin is full or your item is too large, you won’t be able to leave it with us, but we can give you some alternatives. If you have a lot of items, we ask that you bring them in one at a time, and only bring what you can carry yourself. Our staff are working to keep our library services on track, and they won’t be available to help you unload any items.

If you have any questions about whether your item is eligible for recycling, feel free to give us a call. 314-821-5770 opt 3 or email reference@kirkwoodpubliclibrary.org.

Featured Book Club Kit to Go

This month’s featured book club kit is It Ends With Us By Colleen Hoover

Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most. Lily hasn't always had it easy, but that's never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She's come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up -- she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily's life suddenly seems almost too good to be true. Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He's also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn't hurt. Lily can't get him out of her head. But Ryle's complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his "no dating" rule, she can't help but wonder what made him that way in the first place. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan -- her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

Sustainability @ KPL

Why recycle your old electronics? There are lots of reasons! Electronic gadgets are made with metals that erode and release harmful toxins. Keeping these out of landfills minimizes that pollution. Metals can often be separated and dealt with in a more environmentally responsible manner. Reusing metals means less need to be extracted through mining which is expensive and also environmentally damaging. Even more important, your old electronic items may still have useful life. Your old phone or computer may be perfect for someone with different needs. PCs for people will refurbish your old equipment and match it up with someone who needs digital access. Please take advantage of the PCs for People recycle bin at Kirkwood Public Library through January 31, 2023.
