GOOD TIDINGS
The Weekly Newsletter for Park Road Baptist Church
June 17, 2026
| | On May 31, our congregation affirmed the Five Directives of the Building. Community. vision plan. Over the next five weeks, we'll take a closer look at each directive, exploring the hopes, goals, and ministries they represent. We hope these weekly highlights will continue to help us better understand the vision we have embraced together and how it will shape the future of Park Road Baptist Church. | | |
Directive: Outreach for Growth
In our previous long-range Visions we used the word “initiative” to describe specific actions intended to come out of the plan. In Building. Community. we have chosen to use the word “Directive,” because of its implication of movement, action, guidance. Our previous Visions really have guided Park Road, making us the church we are today – our facilities, our leadership structure, our stewardship of openness with our campus. We trust Building. Community. will have the same directional impact on the life of our church for the next chapter.
Folks in the business world say, “It takes money to make money.” Maybe the same ought to be true for the growth of a church.
Thanks be to God for Ann Miles. If not for Ann, we may not have an Outreach program, but welcoming our guests and keeping up with them, following up in an effort to create new (official) members of her church has been one of Ann’s passions. She has pulled together a delightful team of smiling and friendly volunteers, and they do great work in recognizing guests in Sunday worship, and following up with them.
But think about what they could do if they had a little money to go along with their enthusiasm!

Directive: Outreach for Growth, recognizes that churches in the U.S. are under intense pressure. Dozens are closing their doors each week, as a frantic culture and a secular ethic challenge traditional understandings of what church is and ought to be, and how to maintain a vibrant presence as we head well into the 21st century. We believe Park Road is the kind of church, offering the kind of message that can be – and needs to be – felt in a city like Charlotte.
As we move into this century, and especially with an expanded Children Development Center and children’s and youth programs, we need to take Outreach for Growth seriously. How do we find the people across our city who want and need our kind of community? How do we reach out, intentionally? How do we grow – yes, how do we grow in number as well as in depth of spirit?
This Directive will provide the money to fund innovative programs that intentionally seek to grow our congregation. In our case, it’s not money to make money, but money to make members – money to make mission. I hope you believe in that as much as I do…
Because having more of you in the Queen City will be a great thing for the future. - Russ

| | Thank You for Supporting Our Partner Congregation in Cuba | | |
A big, heartfelt thank you to everyone for your very generous support of our May mission offering to help our partner congregation in Carlos Rojas, Cuba. The funds will help them buy food in these very difficult, unprecedented, uncertain times as they work to feed approximately two hundred people a week.
Your support for them is a reminder that our relationship with them is very important to our congregation. It is a tangible reminder that we are partners in the truest sense of the word.
Mileydis, the pastor, conveys her gratitude for this support, for our prayers, and for our presence with them as we accompany them, even though it is from a distance. She says our strong partnership gives them hope and shows them that they are not alone in these very difficult times. - Linda Hefner

Families: Summer Plans
Last year, I learned that less is more in our summer schedule, so this year I’ve decided to keep it simple. We have a week of Youth Camp and a week of Kids Camp, but we will also look to do a family day out at the lake in August, as well as a church-wide outing to the Charlotte Pride parade. We will also look to do a trip to Carowinds and a movie night! Be on the lookout for the summer calendar coming soon! - Caleb
