I love the 4 am awakening. The body - peaceful and warm. The mind - peaceful and warm. In my youth, I dreamed my wants: money and endless travel. I felt the fear of forever being alone. Now, I savor the warmth of the blankets and bodies curled beside me.

Today I wait for the first birdsongs and pink in the sky. I love all my activities but also the days without commitments. Days when I do not have to worry that I failed someone, that I said the wrong thing, that I hurt someone, or that I missed something. This morning, the music of the doves and the soft light of the sky infuse me with wholeness. I am dissolved once more and brought into the aliveness of creation.

"It’s just that, when you get to the real meat of life, is that life has its own rhythm and you cannot impose your own structure upon it — you have to listen to what it tells you, and you have to listen to what your path tells you." Jeff Buckley

There is the voice within whispering, "If you could control the clouds, they would lose their enchantment. Just let it be."

Wishing you a sense of flow and enchantment this week.

My book Travels Into Discomfort is available on Amazon.

It is a travel adventure in its prose and a journey to the heart in its poetry.

Women’s History

Women We Should Know

Eugenie Clark

“It seems as though women keep growing. Eventually they can have little or nothing in common with the men they chose long ago.” Eugenie was married 5 times.

Eugenie Clark was a pioneer in the field of ichthyology, performing dozens of submersible dives and discovering several new species of fish during her lifetime. One of few women and even fewer women of Japanese American descent working in marine biology in the 1940s, ’50s, and ’60s, Clark was known to push boundaries. Unlike many of her colleagues, she wasn’t afraid to study fish up close in the water. She was also one of the first ichthyologists to explore the Red Sea. Outside of the ocean, Clark taught the public about marine life and fought to dispel the many negative myths about sharks, earning her the nickname “The Shark Lady.”

COLLECTIVE RAGE: A PLAY IN 5 BETTIES, by Jen Silverman

Directed by Kudra Wagner (Lez Out Loud, CV Rep)

November 10–12 & 17–19, 2023

Betty is rich; Betty is lonely; Betty’s busy working on her truck; Betty wants to talk about love, but Betty needs to hit something. And Betty keeps using a small hand mirror to stare into parts of herself she never examined. Five different women named Betty collide at the intersection of anger, sex, and the theater.

Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties premiered off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on September 12, 2018.

“With moments of hilarity and poignancy, Collective Rage offers a broad spectrum of queer voices rarely seen on stage.” (Nicole Serratore, Variety)

Destiny in Alice on Kanopy

In the heart of central Australia, the town of Alice Springs has become something of a haven for Lesbians – a place where black and white women mix and mingle, confronting the challenges of loving across racial and cultural divides.

In a delightful parody of a famed TV naturalist, Destiny Attenborough (played by filmmaker Trisha Morton-Thomas) guides us through the habitat and customs of the women who love women in Alice Springs. The origins of the community are traced back to the women's movement and the American base at Pine Gap near Alice Springs in the early 1980s. Three Aboriginal Lesbians provide insight into the complexities of their relationships with other women and with their families

Lesbians in Bed: Reading Haikus is a reflection of my journey learning to love myself while discovering what it means for me to be a queer femme lesbian. The chapters within are a mix of romance, erotica, and little lessons that lesbians can either relate to, identify with, or laugh out loud at. Basically, there’s something for everyone. Especially, the late blooming lesbians like me. Please enjoy!
