SAFESPORT UPDATE
SafeSport Update: USA Hockey Reporting Policy
Paul Jakubowski, AHAI Executive Director & SafeSport Coordinator

USA Hockey's Reporting Policy is a key part of its SafeSport Program and an effective reporting policy is crucial to preventing abuse.  Section IV of the SafeSport Handbook contains specifics on the Reporting Policy. Click HERE to download the SafeSport Handbook. Please click HERE to view the amendments to two federal statutes: (1) the Victims of Child Abuse Act of 1990 and (2) the Amateur Sports Act of 1978.

The Policy requires that every employee or volunteer of any USA Hockey Member Program must report (1) actual or perceived violations of the USA Hockey SafeSport Program Handbook, (2) any violations of the policies prohibiting Sexual Abuse, Physical Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Bullying, Threats and Harassment, and Hazing, and (3) suspicions or allegations of child physical or sexual abuse to the appropriate USA Hockey representatives.

Additionally, in all cases involving suspicions or allegations of child physical or sexual abuse, every employee or volunteer of USA Hockey Member Programs must also report to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

To make a report to USA Hockey, you may do so either by: (1) clicking on " Report to USA Hockey" and completing the Reporting Form, (2) emailing to  [email protected], or (3) calling 800-888-4656.  Reports may also be made to the Affiliate SafeSport Coordinator. The AHAI SafeSport coordinator is Paul Jakubowski; contact him at  [email protected] or 224.636.3216.

All reports involving sexual abuse and misconduct must be reported to the U.S. Center for SafeSport. Reports to the U.S. Center for SafeSport may be made by (1) completing an online report to the U.S. Center for SafeSport at " Report a Concern", or by (2) calling 720-524-5640. For additional information on reporting to the U.S. Center for SafeSport, please click  HERE.

Reminder: Coaches Helmet Rule
Safety is the top priority of USA Hockey each and every day. In 2006, USA Hockey took a significant step forward in enhancing safety by requiring coaches and volunteers to wear helmets when they are on the ice.  While most are in compliance with the rule, this past June, USA Hockey's board of directors added a 30-day suspension from all activities involving registered programs for failure to comply with the rule.  The rule can be found on Page 144 Section A, of USA Hockey's 2018-19 Annual Guide Here's to a fun and safe hockey season. Thanks for all you do to make hockey the greatest game on earth.

COLLEGE HOCKEY HEADLINES
Over 700 Illinois Men & Women Rostered to ACHA Teams for 2018-19 Season
The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) boasts five divisions with over 500 teams from across the nation representing 49 different states (all but Hawaii!).  AHAI has compiled a list of Illinois Men and Women playing college club hockey during the 2018-19 season. There are currently over 700 Illinois men and women playing in the ACHA. Those numbers demonstrate the extraordinary opportunity that exists for players to keep playing beyond their high school years. The buttons below represent the over 500 ACHA Club teams across the country. The young men and women rostered* to these teams compete in leagues across the country at several different levels: Men's Division I, II and III and Women's Division I and II.
*All lists were compiled from ACHA website rosters. In some instances, hometowns/states were not listed on a team's roster, or no roster was available. If you or someone you know plays on an ACHA team and was not listed, please contact AHAI Communications Manager, Gretchen Cockey at [email protected].
HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY HEADLINES
The Roar of the Huskies Is Back at Naperville North
By Ross Forman - Naperville North is looking to build on the momentum established last season during Bill Driscoll's first season as head coach.  The team finished by winning the Founders Cup of the Illinois West League, and perhaps more important from a school perspective, it was the first time that the seniors beat their crosstown rival, Naperville Central. "I was really happy for the seniors because they, and club president Chris Hall, came a long way from restarting the program after a hiatus due to low numbers," said Driscoll, who spent seven years coaching in the Sabres organization and was the NWHL Coach of the Year during the 2015-2016 season.
