A Message From CEO, Al Gilbert

In Recognition of our Staff

I want to give special recognition to frontline staff that ensured ECE children and families received equitable access to quality care and educational resources with minimal disruption despite a Covid threat. Similarly, I recognize our hardworking street teams supporting the unhoused.

I have never been prouder of our team and the phenomenal commitment, professionalism, and caring demonstrated over the past year. Serving as the essential workers for the north, south and east bay, working within our various teams, we continued to do superlative work, sometimes in the face of great challenges.

Because of the bravery of our staff, Felton touched the lives of more than 80,000 in need of our specialized care.

A Pandemic Story Recognizing and Rebuilding Humanity

Pre-pandemic, many formerly incarcerated persons would come out with no connections, no safety net, no clean way to transition back into society. With the current situation, the challenges they face are exponentially greater.

This is precisely the gap Mona Blake has worked tirelessly to bridge as the program manager of the Center of Reentry Excellence (CORE), a Felton Institute program.

A Vote of Confidence

It’s been said, “the only constant is change.” As true as that may be, life still has some sort of predictable rhythm, or at least it used to. Crossing into 2022, however, feels like we are bombarded with an unpredictable stream of challenging news coming from all directions.

Nevertheless, there is a silver lining; we at Felton Institute have maintained a network of like-minded persons across more than 50 programs who continue to help us serve the Bay Area’s most vulnerable populations.

SF Young Adult Court graduation ceremony

This past holiday was especially joyous for six young adults who’ve been caught up in the California court system. On Dec. 16, 2021, the San Francisco Young Adult Court held its annual graduation and recognized some young people who’ve overcome obstacles such as homelessness, residential treatment and often being victims of violence themselves.
