OVERNIGHT MULTI-LANE CLOSURES AND TRAFFIC STOPPAGES ON I-495 APPROACHING GEORGETOWN PIKE IN MCLEAN

FOR TWO WEEKS STARTING ON OR ABOUT AUG. 18

Ramp from northbound George Washington Memorial Parkway to southbound I-495 will be closed and detoured beginning Sunday night, Aug. 17; Motorists should expect delays

FAIRFAX, VA – Overnight triple lane closures are scheduled to occur on northbound and southbound I-495 (the Capital Beltway) between the American Legion Memorial Bridge and Dulles Corridor Interchange, for construction work on the new Georgetown Pike Bridge in McLean, starting on or about Monday night, Aug. 18 and continuing Monday through Saturday nights for approximately two weeks.

The triple lane closures will occur with one lane remaining open on northbound and southbound lanes on different nights during this two-week period. Closures will occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning, except when intermittent traffic stoppages of up to 30-minutes each happen between midnight and 5 a.m. These closures are needed for crews to install girders on the second section of the new Georgetown Pike bridge, as part of the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project. Drivers traveling in this area should expect potential delays and are encouraged to choose alternate routes.

Additionally, the ramp from northbound George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) to southbound I-495 (Beltway Outer Loop) will be closed and traffic will be detoured nightly between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, Aug. 17, and continuing Monday through Saturday nights for approximately two weeks.

In the event of inclement weather or other delays, work will occur on succeeding nights and may be prolonged or rescheduled. Drivers are urged to slow down, eliminate distractions and drive with heightened caution when traveling through this area.
