CHFA has a strategic initiative to increase Black and African American Homeownership by 440 households in 2025. This is a 15 percent increase over 2024.

June Building Legacy Event – New Venue and Format!

The June event in the Building Legacy: A Black Homeownership Series will be offered both in-person and virtually. Join CHFA and industry experts for Path to Homeownership—The Basics. Be introduced to the steps to homeownership and how to plan your journey.

This series is meant to provide a supportive environment for attendees to learn and ask questions. Each event in the series builds upon the previous one, but attendance is not required at all events. Participants can join the event series at any point.

100 City Tour Community Homebuyer Summit


The 100 City Tour Community Homebuyer Summit from Denver NAREB offered attendees a chance to find out about topics ranging from financial literacy and credit impact to down payment assistance and building wealth through homeownership. CHFA Business Development Specialist Greg Brown had the opportunity to share his homeownership journey, answer questions, and talk about the assistance that CHFA can provide. CHFA was proud to be a sponsor for the April 12th event.

Increasing Black and African American Homeownership


Black and African American households are seeing success becoming first-time homebuyers. A recent survey from Zillow finds that 62 percent of Black and African American homebuyers purchased their first home in 2024. That is consistent with the previous year in the survey. By comparison, overall first-time homebuyers made up 44 percent of the market in 2024. That is down from 50 percent in 2023.
