FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Dear Ox Ridge Families,

Welcome back! We hope you had a restful and enjoyable February break. As we dive into March, we are excited to share a variety of upcoming events that will bring joy, learning, and kindness to our school community.

Read Across America Day – Monday, March 3rd

We are thrilled to celebrate Read Across America Day with a special author visit from Christina Soontornvat! Christina is an award-winning author, engineer, and STEM educator. Her books include picture books, chapter books, and the New York Times bestselling graphic novel series, The Tryout. She is also a three-time Newbery Honor recipient, most recently for The Last Mapmaker.

In addition to this exciting visit, we encourage students to dress as their favorite book character to celebrate the joy of reading! We will embrace our favorite literary characters for a day of fun. As Ms. Frizzle says, “Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!”

Kind and Accepting Month at Ox Ridge!

Throughout the month, we’ll focus on spreading kindness with fun and meaningful activities.

All Month (March 3 - March 31): Kindness Ballot Box

Students can recognize acts of kindness by submitting notes to our Kindness Ballot Boxes. Each week, classrooms will celebrate and share these heartwarming moments.

Weekly Kindness Activities:

Week 1 (March 3 - March 7): Random Acts of Kindness Tag

  • Each student starts with a Kindness Tag.
  • When they perform a kind act, they pass the tag to the person they helped.
  • That person continues the kindness by passing it forward!
  • Let’s see how far kindness spreads throughout Ox Ridge!

Week 2 (March 10 - March 14): Kindness Cards

  • Students will create kindness boards filled with positive messages.
  • Notes of appreciation can be written for friends, teachers, or staff members.
  • Messages will be displayed in team hallways as daily reminders of kindness.

Week 3 (March 17 - March 31): Kindness Awards

  • Teachers will nominate students who go above and beyond in showing kindness.
  • Winners will be announced during afternoon announcements.
  • Recipients will receive a Kindness Award Certificate and be featured on the Kindness Wall of Fame!

Week 4 (March 24 - March 31): Kindness Owl Project

  • A large Kindness Owl will take shape in our main lobby!
  • Every student and staff member will add a feather with a kind word, quote, or phrase.
  • By the end of the week, our owl will be covered in messages of kindness, acceptance, and positivity!

We are looking forward to a month filled with positive energy, fun activities, and opportunities for our students to spread kindness in meaningful ways. Thank you for your continued support in making Ox Ridge a warm and welcoming community for all.

Sincerely,

Chris, Maya, Jackie, & Laura
