**ANNOUNCEMENTS**

Message from the PTA President, Dave Badanes

Hi WMS families,

Parent-Teacher Conferences are this week: Thursday, Oct. 8 from 3:30 to 7:00p and Friday, Oct. 9 from 8:00 to 11:00a. These are long days for our teachers, so the PTA will be providing food to keep them fueled. Thank you in advance to everyone helping make that happen!

A reminder that students are off on both Friday, Oct. 9 and Monday, Oct. 12. Enjoy the long weekend! :)

Picture Days are Monday, Oct. 19 and Tuesday, Oct. 20. Please see Mr. Boykin's email with all the details, and you can pre-order online here. Proceeds from picture day go directly to the PTA, so every order helps support our students and teachers.

We're excited to announce our next General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 4. This meeting will be virtual, and we'll send the link and time as we get closer.

Finally, there's still time to get your team together for Parent Social Trivia Night at Clare and Don's on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 6:30p. The trophy is waiting!

Thank you all for everything you do for our kids and our school.

Warmly,

David

Arlington Travel Basketball - Tryouts Week of Oct.5

ATB is a volunteer-led organization dedicated to building a positive basketball community that teaches the game the right way — through strong fundamentals, teamwork, and a genuine commitment to sportsmanship. Our coaches and volunteers focus on helping young athletes grow as players and as people: competing with integrity, supporting one another, and never losing sight of the fact that basketball should be fun.

We've long partnered with Arlington Parks and Recreation and the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League to provide competitive basketball opportunities for 5th-8th grade boys and girls, and that commitment continues to pay off. ATB alumni have gone on to excel both on the court and in the classroom, playing at the high school, collegiate, and even professional level — including WNBA No. 1 overall draft pick Azzi Fudd. Their success is a reflection of the foundation ATB works to build in every player who comes through our program, whether or not they go on to play at the highest levels.

Our new season is starting soon, and we would be so grateful if you could share this information and graphic within your school community.

Updated schedule and registration information are now available on our new website: atbhoops.org

Tryouts

Tryouts are also free and will take place in the evenings the week of October 5th (Monday-Thursday), for up to 4 days total. More information will follow for those who register.

Visit atbhoops.org to register for both!

Educational Games Expo - Oct. 10

The Ed Games Track and Expo will take place from 10am - 2pm on Saturday, October 10 at GMU's Arlington FUSE Center, 3351 Fairfax Dr, VA 22201.

This free event, open to K-12th graders and their families, brings together education game developers, researchers, educators, students, families, and innovators to explore new ways to make learning more engaging, collaborative, and hands-on. We have an amazing line-up of hands-on and professional development workshops. Registration is required for participation, including limited space opportunities for students and teachers to sign-up for one of the Expo workshops. Please find more information about this event with background and registration information.
