The first day of Summer is June 21st. Are you ready?

June’s letter has information about camps, activities, community resources and events happening in San Antonio. For instance, the San Antonio library has weekly events for kids at EVERY location! There are also food stations around the city to provide breakfast and/or lunch for children.

Don't forget to read. Research shows that children who read at least 20 minutes a day maintain their reading level all summer long. You can make reading fun by working together, getting creative and maybe even making a reading corner. You can also have fun by collecting recycled objects around the house and creating characters from the books your child is reading. Hang them from the ceiling, decorate their room, or create a theater production.

El primer día de verano es el 21 de Junio. ¿Está preparado?

La carta de Junio tiene información sobre los muchos eventos que suceden en San Antonio. En cada ubicación la biblioteca de San Antonio tiene una variedad de eventos para niños. Tambien existen estaciones de comida alrededor de la ciudad que proporcionan desayuno y almuerzo para niños.

No olvides leer. Las investigaciones demuestran que los niños que se dedican a leer por lo menos 20 minutos al día mantienen su nivel de lectura durante todo el verano. Usted puede hacer que la lectura sea divertida trabajando juntos, siendo creativos y haciendo un rincón de lectura. También puede divertirse reciclando objetos en la casa y creando personajes de los libros que su hijo está leyendo. Los puede colgar del techo, decorar su habitación o crear una obra de teatro.

UTSA Summer Camps
Welcome to The University of Texas at San Antonio, San Antonio's summer camp destination.

This year, UTSA will offer science, engineering, architecture, sports, music, writing and language and culture camps for kids, teens and adults. Some camps are day-long programs; others last a week or two. But each of our camps offers participants the chance to have fun, make friends and learn something new.
Are you 6-12 years old and interested in ecology?
Register for a week-long summer camp designed for kids 6-12 years old
Come explore basic concepts in monarch biology, ecology, and conservation.

Community Summer Camps
Ages 5-12
A full day of camp is from 7:30am-6:00pm priced at $45 ($5 discount for siblings) and half day is from 9:00am-3:00pm priced at $35 ($5 discount for siblings)
 We provide AM and PM snack- socks and lunch are required.

Summer camp at the Y invites youth to be inspired through creative play, field trips, sports, and more. It is an opportunity for youth to stay engaged socially and academically.

Community Events
Visit any  San Antonio Public Library or go online to get your Over the Moon reading log.  
When you have logged eight titles, bring your Over the Moon reading log back to the library to receive your Summer Reading certificate and select a free paperback book to keep!

Summer is quickly approaching and we are excited to announce that Little Warriors Camp is returning for 2019.

This annual FREE camp is for children of military - active duty, retired, veterans, and reservists. The first camp is scheduled for July 8-12, 2019 for children ages 8-10. The second camp is scheduled for July 15-19, 2019 for ages 11-13.

JPL Education Introduces
Art and the Cosmic Connection
Using the elements of art — shape, line, color, texture, value — students make sense of images of planets, asteroids, comets and moons, honing observation skills and inspiring questions. Learners of all ages create a beautiful piece of art while learning to recognize geologic and atmospheric features of solar system objects. The lesson begins with what we know here on Earth and then uses that awareness to help students interpret features on distant objects in the solar system. Art and the Comic Connection offers a terrific bridge between Earth and space science, as well as a wonderful dive into the potential of science to inspire art — and art to empower science!
College Readiness Workshops
Helping students set and keep short- and long-term academic and career goals by building a college-going culture. Increasing awareness of career opportunities and assisting with planning of career paths.
