Using Online Whiteboards in Math |

A recent Edutopia article titled Using Online Whiteboards to Boost Student Engagement and Confidence in Math describes the benefits and methods of using online whiteboards with students. If you have ever used dry-erase boards in the classroom, you may like the virtual features of online whiteboards. This article walks through the logistics of making them work, gives several free options, and gives tips on how to be successful with this technology tool either virtually or in-person.
An online search will yield many more online whiteboard options, each with slightly different capabilities or characteristics. The website Ditch That Textbook has summarized 15 online whiteboards and how to stream them to your remote students.
Whatever you choose, online whiteboards are a good resource that can bring you closer to your students even when you are far apart. You can even use them in the classroom to increase technology use and enable easy sharing of examples in Math instruction.

Personal and Workplace Success Skills Library
The National College Transition Network (NCTN) has produced the Personal & Workplace Success Skills Library. This collection of resources is meant to foster the integration of these skills into areas of curriculum and instruction, advising and coaching, assessment, and program design. The resources come from the areas of adult education, higher education, workforce development, and career and technical education programs. The target audience is adult and older youth learners and workers, including English language learners. Visit the library online. Pennsylvania One Book Program
The 2021 Pennsylvania One Book Program is intended to emphasize the importance of emotional resilience, social-emotional wellness, and healing through literacy and literature. Young readers across Pennsylvania will be exposed to a number of titles through two booklists (for ages 0-2 and ages 3-6), cultivated by youth services librarians and early learning caregivers, with a focus on understanding emotions and feelings. Two family fun guides and two activity guides for librarians and caregivers, all of which contain activities that align with the Pennsylvania Standards for Early Childhood, will also be made available via the One Book website to encourage family engagement and positive learning experiences. All booklists and guides will be made available via the Pennsylvania One Book website in April 2021.

Many Books: One Pennsylvania Community
A webinar will be held on Tuesday, April 27 from 1-2 p.m. for “Many Stories, One Pennsylvania Community: Understanding Trauma and Supporting Resilience” with Janet Pozmantier, M.S., LPC, LMFT, RPT. Adverse childhood experiences touch us all, but they don’t have to take a toll. This interactive webinar will explore nine trauma-informed strategies to alleviate the impact of adverse experiences and enhance emotional regulation in young children; examine the use of empathy and empowerment to address toxic stress and trauma in families; and engage in simple approaches for self-soothing to mitigate the effects of secondary trauma and burnout and build resiliency in ourselves and others.

Using the Integrating Career Awareness Curriculum Guide
During a Friday Lunchtime Webinar in March, Chrissie Klinger of the Workforce Development System Liaison Project presented How the Integrating Career Awareness Curriculum Guide Can Support Student Career Goal-Setting and Planning. Participants had an opportunity to explore how administrators, teachers, student support coordinators, and volunteer tutors might all use the Integrating Career Awareness Curriculum Guide (ICA) differently. Additionally, participants explored various ways to use the ICA materials digitally including through email, collaborative Google Docs, Google Classroom, and Wakelet. The webinar recording and resources are located in the PD Portal and customized technical assistance is available to help adult education practitioners determine how to use this resource with workforce partners, within the classroom to enhance CCRS-aligned lessons, and/or as classroom extension activities that better prepare adult learners for transitioning to employment or training. Emergency Broadband Benefit
The Emergency Broadband Benefit will provide a discount of up to $50 per month towards broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute $10-$50 toward the purchase price. The Emergency Broadband Benefit is limited to one monthly service discount and one device discount per household. Learn more, including who qualifies, on the program website.

Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grants
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced that it is accepting applications for the Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Grants program. The DLT program helps fund distance learning and telemedicine services in rural areas to increase access to education, training, and health care resources that are otherwise limited or unavailable. USDA plans to make $44.5 million available in fiscal year 2021. Of this amount, $10.2 million is intended for projects that provide substance use disorder treatment services in rural areas. Eligible applicants include most state and local governmental entities, federally recognized tribes, nonprofits, and for-profit businesses. Applications must be submitted electronically through grants.gov no later than June 4, 2021. For additional information, please visit the DLT webpage.
