Refugee Resettlement Program

Pennsylvania Department of Human Services’ Refugee Resettlement Program is holding its 2023 Statewide Consultation, "Post-Resettlement Programs in a Changing Landscape," at Central Penn College near Harrisburg on October 4-5. This is an opportunity for the many programs and stakeholders who work with recently resettled refugees to meet with state staff and each other to learn about refugee resettlement and refugees’ needs and to share experiences, ideas, or best practices.

If your program is serving refugees, consider having staff attend. Travel costs are allowable with PDE - Division of Adult Education-funded grants. Registration for this event is free.

Day One will address topics related to Refugee Support Services, and Day Two will focus on refugee health.

Come join an exciting in-person consultation at Central Penn College in Summerdale, PA. This two-day event will focus on the challenges and opportunities faced by refugees after their resettlement. Discover how the changing landscape impacts their lives and learn about the support available to help them thrive.

Teaching Tips and Resources

Scaffolding for Experienced English Language Learners

Achieving higher level academic goals often requires more language skills and academic vocabulary than many English language learners (ELLs) possess. A new Edutopia article addresses multilingual students' need to develop a grasp of academic English and how the classroom teacher can use scaffolding methods to help.
