New Adult Education Flyer Available to Share with Partners

Adult education is an important partner in the workforce development system, but not all organizations are familiar with adult education programs. The Workforce Development System Liaison (WDSL) Project and Communications Project developed a new one-page flyer, "Adult Education Strengthens Workforce Development in Pennsylvania" which can be shared with partners so they can learn more about your program's services and how to work together to support learners with achieving their education and career goals. This flyer provides a brief overview of the services available through adult education funding and how they support the PA Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Combined State Plan

Below are some suggestions for how local programs might want to share the flyer:

  • Share with your local workforce development board members at the next public meeting or during your annual report to the board. Pair the flyer with a success story of a WIOA co-enrolled participant who entered training or obtained employment.
  • Share with new PA CareerLink® staff members and business service team members. Talk with business services team members to clarify what employer services your adult education program may be able to support, including incumbent worker training.
  • Share with your local, state, and federal representatives, along with a success story of an adult learner who obtained employment because of participation in adult education programming.
  • Share with your local agency board members and students and encourage them to share with others, including sharing it on social media.

The WDSL Project will share the flyer with all state workforce development board committee members.

For additional technical assistance with using this flyer or working with partners within the workforce development system, contact Loretta Lininger at lml160@psu.edu

The flyer is also available for download from the PAAER website on the Administrator ResourcesWIOAIET, and Workforce Regional Planning pages.

TEACHING TIPS & RESOURCES

Showing Work in Math

A student who truly understands and comprehends a math concept can apply it in different situations and can show their thinking through showing their work. A recent Edutopia article, 7 Ways to Get Math Students to Show Their Thinking, can help you encourage students to do just that. The author argues that in the professional world, people are paid to really solve complicated problems, not to get quick answers. This aligns with the one of the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) Key Shifts for Math, rigor. That key shift focuses on learners building not just procedural skills and fluency, but also conceptional understanding and application of the math skills to solve real-world problems.
