PA Museums is proud to announce our 2019 Special Achievement Awards. Each year we recognize the excellent work going on in the Commonwealth's museums and historical organizations with an awards ceremony at our annual conference. We will present our awards on April 8, 2019 at our conference in Chadds Ford at the Brandywine River Museum of Art. Our 2019 Special Achievement Awards winners are:

ADVOCACY MATTERS
On New Year's Day, new members of Pennsylvania's House and Senate were sworn in at a ceremony in Harrisburg. After the swearing in ceremony, lawmakers set
new rules for the upcoming two year session. Yesterday the House Republicans announced
committee assignments. We expect to see committee assignments from the House Democrats, Senate Republicans, and Senate Democrats in the coming days. The next scheduled session day is January 15, the same day Governor Wolf and Lieutenant-Governor Elect John Fetterman will be inaugurated. Between now and then, all eyes will be on and many lawmakers will be present at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg for photo opportunities, milk shakes, and a foray into the Commonwealth's agricultural heritage.
In spite of the partial shut down of the Federal government over the holidays, the
re-authorization of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) passed through the U.S. Senate and House and was signed into law on December 31, 2018. The shutdown is having an impact on services and operations at the National Park Service's sites in Pennsylvania. The American Alliance of Museums' President and CEO, Laura Lott, released
this statement about the shutdown yesterday.

Mattress Factory's new policies in the wake of sexual harassment allegations.
The Lititz Museum, now closed until May, reported an increase in visitors in 2018, and we hope a visitor from Wyoming walks through the doors.
