BILLS OF INTEREST — SPECIAL SESSION #2

As in the first Special Session, legislators have again filed bills seeking to prohibit cities, counties, school districts, and other local governments from using public funds to hire lobbyists or join associations that advocate on their behalf. As we have discussed, PAAT strongly opposes these measures, emphasizing that political subdivisions—just like private businesses and individuals—must be able to access professional expertise, whether accountants, lawyers, engineers, or registered lobbyists. We believe full disclosure and compliance with the Lobby Law provide stronger protections for the public than blanket restrictions on hiring advocates. Related bills include the following.
