Kauai's Cultural Champions

Aldrine Guerro

Aldrine Guerrero is an award winning musician, ‘ukulele player, music teacher, and head instructor at the AG Ukulele Academy on the island of Kaua‘i.

Born in Manila, Aldrine moved at the age of 7 to Kaua‘i where he was introduced to the ukulele at a church song practice.

"There was a lady there who had an ‘ukulele. I asked her if I could play it and she taught me my first song [“Surf” by the Ka’au Crater Boys]. From that very first chord, I was hooked."

By middle school, he began performing around the island and in high school he met fellow Kaua‘i musicians Ryan Esaki and Aaron Nakamura.

In 2007, the three started Ukulele Underground as a website and forum, eventually teaching the ‘ukulele to hundreds of thousands of students all over the world through live video instruction, tutorials, Play-Alongs, and in-person workshops.

Since then, he has toured over 12 countries, released 4 albums, and his music has been featured in compilation albums, television, short films, and major motion pictures.

Today Aldrine is running an ‘ukulele academy to serve the keiki & ukulele players of his home island of Kaua’i. To learn and level up your playing, check out the AG ‘Ukulele Academy.
