2020 PSATS Conference - Volunteers Needed

Close to 4,000 township officials and guests from all over Pennsylvania will attend the annual Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) Conference and Trade Show. Once again, there will be a conservation district booth at the show, which runs from Sunday, May 3, to Tuesday, May 5, 2020.

We are looking for volunteers for the following shifts:
  • Sunday, May 3 from Noon - 5:00 p.m.
  • Monday, May 4 from 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 5 from 7:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Please consider volunteering for a morning or afternoon shift at the conservation district booth. PSATS is a valuable opportunity to promote districts, explain the type of work they do, and reinforce existing relationships with local township officials.

Contact Jann McNamara at jmcnamara@pacd.org or 717-238-7223 to volunteer.

Farm Energy Day Workshops Coming to PA This Spring

Penn State Extension's Renewable Energy Team announces plans for a series of one-day workshops on Farm Energy. They will be full of information sharing and discussion around topics to help farms, rural businesses, and communities address energy opportunities and needs. Sponsored by the PA Department of Environmental Protection's energy office and the U.S. Department of Energy's State Energy Program, they will be held at multiple locations around the state:

April 8 - Berks County Extension Office, Leesport
April 17 - Mercer County Extension Office, Mercer
April 24 - Troy Sale Barn, Troy (Bradford County)
May 8 - Washington County Food Bank, Brownsville

Each workshop will cover opportunities for improving the efficiency of the use of electricity, natural gas, and other fossil fuels, as well as the potential to displace part or all of your electric bill with renewable energy. Leasing land for solar projects, which has been a hot topic of late, will also be covered.

For more information or to register please visit the website  or call 1-877-345-0691. The $10 registration fee includes lunch.
Pollinator Conservation Field Day Guide

The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) recently announced the release of a free, first-of-its-kind curriculum, "A Guide to Conducting a Pollinator Conservation Field Day,"  available for download through NACD's new Conservation Education Hub.

This new curriculum is designed to provide interactive learning experiences for grades K-8, engaging them in habitat-focused, pollinator-themed activities for the classroom and outdoors. Each activity has been correlated to education standards and provides a pathway to valuable partnerships with local soil and water conservation districts.

The new curriculum guides teachers and educators through the resources and tools needed to conduct a successful pollinator field day. Planning and implementation guidelines, materials, and evaluation strategies are all included.
