Quarterly News

Update

Dear PACE Division Members,

I hope this newsletter finds you in the best of springtime spirits. January, February, March and (soon to be April) have been a flurry of activities. It feels as though 2022 has swept us up into a whirlwind and released us into the beginning of May.

I anticipate that many of you had the opportunity to enjoy some well-deserved rest and relaxation during your spring break or look forward to the summer solstice. It's vital for our mental and emotional well-being to build in time to decompress from our daily stressors. I hope you take advantage of those opportunities when they present themselves.

I personally feel that the most exciting outcomes from the National Policy Seminar (March 21-23) included Pell Grants, short-term certificate funding and WIOA updates. The PLSP leadership program being rebranded to the “Next Level” program also was kicked off during the National Policy Seminar.

I was joined by Caroline Treschitta, policy analyst with the National Skills Coalition, for an Ohio PACE Division Conference in early April. Treschitta provided information regarding Federal Workforce Updates.

The Federal Jobs Act, WIOA, Workforce and Education Appropriation updates were provided. Treschitta provided participants with information regarding the Presidential request to increase across workforce programs: WIOA by 5% and Apprenticeship grants increase by almost 30%. New allocation under CTE $208 million for competitive grants to consortia of local educational agencies, institutions of higher education, and employers to pilot evidence-based strategies to increase the integration and alignment of the last two years of high school and the first two years of postsecondary education to improve postsecondary and career outcomes for all students.

As a result of collective advocacy, after months of debate, FY 2022 workforce appropriations bill passed with an increase of $200 million across workforce programs. With the largest bumps to funding going to apprenticeship and the Dislocated Worker National Reserve.

Additionally, Teschitta suggested PACE members sign up for NSC newsletter, email caroline@nationalskillscoalition.org or keep in touch on Twitter: @caroline_tresch.

ACTE Announces the 2022 NextLevel Postsecondary CTE Leadership Fellows

The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced its fourth class of Fellows for its 2022 NextLevel Postsecondary CTE Leadership Program, sponsored by ECMC Foundation and powered by ACTE (formerly known as the Postsecondary Leadership Success Program at ACTE – sponsored by ECMC Foundation). Seventeen fellows were selected for the 2022-2023 cohort. The NextLevel Fellowship provides professional and career growth opportunities to the next generation of leaders in postsecondary CTE programs through a nationally-recognized program that is engaging, individualized, and memorable.

The 2022-2023 cohort includes the following fellows. Individual press releases describing the fellows’ biographies can be accessed by clicking on their names below:

  •  Barbara Wahi – Amarillo College, Texas

This is ACTE’s fourth cohort of postsecondary CTE professionals in leadership development activities. Through this program, fellows build their leadership abilities as they work alongside peer professionals and an experienced mentor in this year-long professional development experience. Fellows also elevate their interpersonal skills and capacity to communicate, collaborate, network, problem solve and use time and resources effectively. The core capstone project is to identify a professional objective to address in each fellows’ institution and carry it out to realize a lasting impact. This program is intended to develop the organizational leadership and management skills of postsecondary CTE professionals, with an emphasis on addressing the needs of underserved populations. The NextLevel Fellowship also includes a research study to help determine what efforts best contribute to leadership development among postsecondary CTE professionals and the creation of resources that can be widely distributed to support others in the field.
