We need you to come to the State Capitol on
Thursday, May 30
, for State-wide Nonprofit Advocacy Day, to tell legislators to:
- Fully fund community services. $2.65 billion is projected to end up in the Rainy Day Fund at the end of the fiscal year. If policymakers do not fully fund community nonprofits now, when will they?
- Support SB 928, that will protect nonprofit property tax exemptions;
- Support SB 945, which would implement an “innovation incentive program” to retain savings realized at the end of a contract term;
- Oppose any requirement for nonprofits to pay a tax or fee.
PLEASE COME EVEN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN TO THE CAPITOL THIS SESSION. Your voice—together with those of others representing community nonprofits – is still needed so that the programs you care about don’t get “lost in the shuffle” in the end-of-session crunch.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON MAY 30:
- Join hundreds of community nonprofit staff, Board members, family and self advocates by filling the State Capitol Hallways (2nd and 3rd Floors) between 2:00pm-5:00pm.
- Wear your green "I Am Essential" T-Shirt and rally your network to fill the hallways of the Capitol!
- Alliance staff will be on site to provide leave behind forms and materials, and can help you identify and locate your legislators.
HELP BUILD MOMENTUM LEADING UP TO MAY 30
- Click here to send an email to your local legislators through our Contact Your Legislator tool and tell them to fully fund community services and support The Alliance's legislative priorities.
- Sign-up for a two-hour advocacy "visibility shift" (4-6pm or 6-8pm) between May 20 and June 4. RSVP to Jeff Shaw (jshaw@ctnonprofitalliance.org). Note: if neither the House or Senate are in session, Alliance staff will let you know ahead of your shift so you can pick another date.
- Forward this email to your co-workers and to the people you serve and their families. Legislators need to hear from as many people as possible.
