Static Equivalent Model Reduction in Ansys Mechanical

Ansys Mechanical users are often asked to simulate the structural response of a simple area in a complex geometry. One way to do this is to reduce the model to a static equivalent model reduction – creating a simplified model that acts close enough to a larger, more complex representation. PADT’s Alex Grishin, PhD, recently put together a presentation to dive into what he has learned about static equivalent model reduction over the years and how to quickly get a model that gives useful and accurate results. .

Steward Observatory Balloon Mission Breaks NASA Record 22 Miles Above Antarctica

On a nearly windless morning on the Ross Ice Shelf, a stadium-size balloon took flight above Antarctica, carrying with it far infrared technology from the University of Arizona's Steward Observatory in search of clues about the stellar life cycle in our galaxy and beyond. GUSTO – short for the Galactic / Extragalactic ULDB Spectroscopic Terahertz Observatory – has now broken the record as NASA's longest-flying heavy-lift balloon mission, which previously stood at 55 days, 1 hour and 34 minutes.

PADT Hosts Hands-On Workshop for Industrial 3D Printing

On Friday, August 23, PADT hosted a Stratasys New Technologies half-day Hands-on Workshop covering the Origin DLP and SAF powder-bed 3D printer systems. Seven attendees across three companies (Microchip, Naden Engineering, and Southwest Microwave) had the chance to post-process completed samples from both systems, learning the steps of the full workflow (both software and hardware) and taking home their final parts.

An Honest Talk for Technology Startup Founders

PADT's Eric Miller recently gave a presentation at Venture Cafe Phoenix entitled, "From Science Project to Project." This fun and honest talk looks at the steps needed, and some of the hard realities faced, when a scientist or engineers takes a brilliant breakthrough and build a company around it.

The Latest Definition from PADT's 3D Printing Glossary

Nesting

Packing multiple parts into the build volume of a machine to create the fastest and most efficient build or fitting as many parts as possible in the smallest build volume possible. Parts are often placed inside the cavities of other parts.
