Nick Sellers '95 Reacts to Adding Flag Football to the World Games 2022

Flag football has been added to The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama — the first edition of The World Games to be held in America since 1981. In partnership with the International World Games Association, NFL and International Federation of American Football, The World Games announced that the sport will join the existing lineup of 32 multi-disciplinary sports.

Hosted at Birmingham’s historic Legion Field, Flag Football at The World Games 2022 Presented by the NFL will feature eight men’s and eight women’s teams from around the world. As the current reigning champions, the United States men’s and women’s teams both pre-qualify for the tournament. The remaining teams will be selected through the IFAF qualifying process.

“We are grateful that the NFL recognizes the significance The World Games 2022 will have as the first major international sporting event in the U.S. coming out of this global pandemic,” said Nick Sellers, CEO of The World Games 2022. “The world is longing to reconnect. And Birmingham, Alabama will play a role in that reconnection. The NFL’s partnership sends a signal to every company in the world that associating their brand with this special event is important for the world to see.”

Get to Know Our Coaches
Hailey Decker - Assistant Softball Coach
Hailey Decker was named to the Pacific softball coaching staff in the fall of 2019. She came to the Tigers program after serving two seasons as an assistant at Pacific University, located in Forest Grove, Oregon. During her tenure, Decker helped lead the Boxers to consecutive Northwest Conference Tournament appearances in 2018 and 2019.

Prior to her time with the Boxers, Decker was an assistant at Corban University, where she was the infield and hitting coach. While with the Warriors' she helped coach the team to a Cascade Collegiate Conference title and a runner-up finish in the NAIA World Series.

"She has a tremendous background as a coach and as an athlete, both collegiately and internationally. We are looking forward to her using that experience to help enrich our athletes both athletically and academically" expressed head coach, Brian Kolze.

The Keizer, Oregon native's coaching roots come from her father, Steve Decker, who played baseball professionally before moving in to the coaching ranks for the San Francisco Giants organization.

Decker, a middle infielder, played for two elite programs during college. She began her collegiate career at Nebraska in 2013, where she helped the Huskers to a stellar 45-16 record en route to an appearance at the Women's College World Series. As a sophomore, the Huskers recorded another 40-win season at 44-18 before advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals. In her final season with Nebraska, Decker set the Huskers' single-season record for doubles and was named First Team All-Big 10 and First Team All-Midwest Region.

Decker transferred to the University of Oregon as a junior and was a starter for the Ducks in the 2015 WCWS. Earning All-Pac12 Honorable Mention and First Team All-Pacific Region, Decker helped Oregon to back-to-back Pac-12 titles in 2015 and 2016.
