With an economy mainly driven by agriculture, extractive industries and hydropower, land degradation and desertification poses serious threats to the health of the economy in the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as its people and environment.

Siempre es posible cambiar -  it is always possible to change, rang out the chorus of the song that opened the closing ceremony of the   Fifth Latin America Green Awards (Premios Latinamérica Verde)   on August 16 in Guyayaquil, Ecuador. This year, PAGE was a key partner for the awards, underlining the role of green economy in Latin America as a key component for achieving environmental protection and prosperity.

A significant milestone has been reached in Burkina Faso’s transition to an inclusive green economy. Last month, the government’s draft National Strategy for Green Economy was validated by national stakeholder groups. The validation workshop took place as part of SWITCH Africa Green’s National Policy Dialogue on the 27 th  of July 2018 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The workshop brought together representatives from different government institutions and provided them with the opportunity to review the strategy and validate its action plan.
Stakeholder consultations on access to green finance in Ghana

National stakeholders convened in late July to provide feedback on PAGE’s draft study on access to green finance for businesses in Ghana. Green – or sustainable – finance can be loosely defined as finance resources generated to target positive social, economic and environmental outcomes or business practices.
Peru: Training on modelling techniques for green growth

In collaboration with the Ministry of Production of Peru ( PRODUCE ) and the  EU-funded project  “Inclusive Green Economy Policy Making for SDGs: from Implementation to Evaluation”, Universidad del Pacífico ( CIUP ) and the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) held a three day capacity building event on the Integrated Green Economy Modelling ( IGEM ) Tool.

P eru : PAGE continues to support the alaboration and updating of the National Green Jobs Plan in consultation with the Ministry of Labour. The plan will be validated in September or October this year, and integrated into an update of the National Employment Policy.

Mauritius: The Green Economy Learning Assessment has been finalized by the Civil Service College of Mauritius.

A recent constitutional reform in Uruguay acknowledges water as a fundamental right and a new institutional set-up on water issues has been established. In July 2016 a participatory process of drafting the National Water Plan was launched. One of the main proposed actions in the plan is the introduction of agricultural usage charges and contamination fees to raise revenues, increase water-use efficiency, and improve water quality.
Since its inception in 2013, the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) has grown into a prominent alliance of five UN agencies , eight funding partners and thirteen countries that work together to transform economies into drivers of sustainability by addressing pollution, unemployment, stagnated growth, and socio-economic inequalities.

Thanks to this integrated approach and support of a wide range of partners , PAGE is increasingly recognized as a model to deliver coordinated support to countries for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets of the Paris Agreement .
