What's Happening?

In June, the PAIFUP team secured the release of 1 community member thanks to the efforts of our legal services and community partners.

This month we are highlighting one of our collaborating organizations, Pennsylvania Immigration Coalition (PIC)! Please check out their website and recent news story below, as well as some articles about news impacting the PA immigrant community.

Spotlight: Pennsylvania Immigration Coalition (PIC)

The Pennsylvania Immigration Coalition (PIC) is a diverse coalition of over 50 member organizations and hundreds of individual supporters. Their membership includes community groups, social, health and legal service providers, advocacy organizations, labor unions, and faith communities. PIC leads and supports campaigns that have been prioritized by member organizations to advance immigrant rights at the local, state, and federal levels. PIC also supports grassroots community-led organizations through training and capacity building, and supports member organizations to increase their immigration services. PIC builds immigrant electoral power through nonpartisan voter registration and education of new citizens at naturalization ceremonies. They also carry out year-round voter outreach and connect new voters to local PIC members.

PAIFUP would also like to give a shoutout to Julio Rodriguez, who is the Political Director at PIC, where he keeps coalition members informed on pending immigration legislation, executive orders, and rulemaking. He is the leading advocacy member when it comes to collaborating with PAIFUP and helps with all statewide efforts regarding funding. We look forward to continue working with you, Julio, and PIC to serve the immigrant community!

Here is some of the latest PIC news: PIC supported its members with helping revise a troubling policy in Montgomery County where their county jail was holding people with an ICE detainer for four hours past their release time.
