Cornelius PARC is bringing the programming to you!

We know you're cooped up - it seems like everything is closed or canceled, and you're at home - so what now? Your friends at Cornelius PARC are on a mission to bring you ways to keep busy, stay engaged, decompress, and maintain a healthy mind, body and spirit.
Keep Moving
This Wednesday, April 29, is International Dance Day, so what better time to learn some new moves? LearnToDance.com is offering free introductory videos in a large variety of dances, including hip hop, country western, salsa, tango, Irish step, belly dancing, and others. More extensive lessons can be purchased.

And in case you’ve been wondering how professional dancers are staying in shape, watch one of Ballet Co.Laboratory’s virtual practices for a rock ballet based on the life of Freddie Mercury!
Learn Something New
You know by now that we love finding special days for you to celebrate, and this Saturday, May 2, is International Astronomy Day! You don't have to wait till then, though, because the folks at NASA offer out-of-this-world resources, NASA@Home , regarding astronomy, planets, space travel, and more! They also provide NASA STEM@Home , with educational STEM projects for kids, divided into activities for grades K-4, 9-8, and 9-12.

Make Your Own Fun
Speaking of astronomy, we found this website full of not spacecrafts, but STAR crafts! So many "brilliant" ideas, using paper, clay, wood, paint, pom poms, beads, and even recycled magazine pages! Or take a look at this website offering crafts like galaxy slime and a way to make constellations with rocks and sidewalk chalk. The sky's the limit!
Get in My Belly!
This Thursday, April 30, is National Oatmeal Cookie Day, and when we learned that, we knew it was time to share one of our favorite baking sites with you: Sally's Baking Addiction . Our search there for "oatmeal cookies" brought up dozens of amazing options, including traditional, iced, some made with chocolate chips or M&Ms or raisins or pumpkin or peanut butter...ready, set, bake!

In times of crisis we learn the value of community. Please consider our local restaurants, both the business owners and the many affected employees! Order for carry out or delivery, or purchase gift cards for later use! Visit Lake Norman is maintaining a list of Lake Norman food and beverage locations still operating and a link to their new Virtual Tip Jar through their Lakeside Curbside webpage.
Partner Spotlight
Xtreme Lacrosse
Since 2012, Cornelius PARC has partnered with Xtreme Lacrosse to bring the exciting game of lacrosse to our area. For youth from pre-kindergarten through high school, Xtreme teaches sound fundamentals, sportsmanship, and proven game tactics providing players with the tools necessary to succeed. Their programs include both recreational and competitive league play, instructional clinics, and summer camps for boys and girls. During this down time, Coach John Mott has created a great instructional video providing drills your young athlete can practice on their own or with a family member to keep Growing the Game!

We believe that parks are essential, now more than ever! All Town of Cornelius parks remain open at this time, including Bailey Road, Legion, Robbins, Smithville, Torrence Chapel, and Wilhelm. However, we can only keep the parks open if YOU practice social distancing - that is, a physical distance of at least six feet. That means no doubles, no groups, no shared equipement unless among immediate family sharing the same household. Please, we need your help so we can keep our parks open!

Note that all Mecklenburg County Parks are open for use but closed to vehicular traffic. You can walk in or bike in, just not drive in. In Cornelius, affected parks include Jetton Park, Ramsey Creek Park, and Blythe Landing.
