Cornelius PARC is bringing the programming to you!

We know you're cooped up - it seems like everything is closed or canceled, and you're at home - so what now? Your friends at Cornelius PARC are on a mission to bring you ways to keep busy, stay engaged, decompress, and maintain a healthy mind, body and spirit.
Tennis Court Updates
While tennis courts at Town-operated Bailey Road, Torrence Chapel, and Robbins Parks have remained open throughout these past weeks, Mecklenburg County's courts were closed for awhile; in Cornelius, Jetton Park was impacted. Effective late last week, tennis is once again allowed in County parks if following safety rules and restrictions provided by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) . Only singles tennis and pickleball matches are allowed unless players are immediate family members, so that the CDC's recommended social distancing guideline of at least six feet between individuals can be observed. The County has also reopened all of its parks to vehicular traffic. Remember that restrooms at all parks remain closed, so bring your own hand sanitizer.
Keep Moving
Each May since 1956, National Bike Month has been celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Whether you bike to save money or time, pump those pedals to preserve your health or the environment, or simply to explore your community, this observance is an opportunity to celebrate the unique power of the bicycle and the many reasons we ride. It's also a great time to get educated about safe cycling - check out these bicycle tip sheets and these smart cycling videos.
Learn Something New
This week features lots of celebrations: May 4 is International Firefighters Day; May 5 has National Astronaut, Cartoonist, and Teacher Appreciation Days; May 6 is both National Nurses and Skilled Trades Day; and May 8 celebrates Childcare Providers! So that had us thinking about careers in general, and we thought this week would be a good one for your child to investigate what they want to be when they grow up! We believe that parks are essential, now more than ever! All Town of Cornelius parks remain open at this time, including Bailey Road, Legion, Robbins, Smithville, Torrence Chapel, and Wilhelm. However, we can only keep the parks open if YOU practice social distancing - that is, a physical distance of at least six feet. That means no doubles, no groups, no shared equipment unless among immediate family sharing the same household. Please, we need your help so we can keep our parks open!
