Dear MISD Parents,

With just one week left in the second grading period, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the great work happening across our campuses. During my visits to classrooms all over the district, I have been continually impressed by the dedication and passion for this work! I am proud to work alongside this team as we continue to strive for excellence and ensure our students have the best education we can possibly provide!

While we have a significant focus on academic excellence as we should, this week I had the opportunity to join an event at Henderson Elementary where Operation Warm and Civitas (a new partner who is an upstream company) provided coats for 630 Henderson students. Every student came through, picked their favorite color, and was fitted for their very own new coat. We are fortunate to work and serve in a community that gives back, invests in our students and schools, and recognizes that our students have basic needs that must be met.

Early voting began Monday – I encourage all parents to vote in this election as well as all elections. To see polling locations and times, please visit our website.

I am proud to announce the district-wide implementation of iLead. As part of a nationwide initiative by the Maxwell Leadership Foundation, iLead is designed to equip students with essential leadership skills, instill strong personal values, and foster a sense of community across all campuses. You can read the full press release here!

Congratulations to Fannin Elementary for being the Attendance Winner for the first grading period! Fannin experienced a 0.9% increase in attendance for the first grading period compared to last year's first grading period Attendance is critical to student success. Every day counts, and consistent attendance helps ensure academic progress and engagement. Thank you for making your classroom a place students are excited to return to each day.

Last Thursday, the High School Unified Championship took place, where Midland High School earned a victory over Legacy High School. Congratulations to the Bulldogs! For more information about the upcoming Junior High Unified Championship, please refer to the details provided later in this newsletter.

Next week you will have the chance to tour our brand new high school campuses! These virtual tours of the new Midland High School and Legacy High School will provide a sneak peek at what we can expect when the campuses open! I hope you can find time to stop by and see what all the excitement is about as we prepare for our new high schools.

Amazing news from Fine Arts this week as both the Mighty Bulldog Band and Mighty Rebel Band earned a Divison 1 rating at last weekend's Regional Marching Band Contest! Meaning both bands had superior performances worthy of first place. I know this takes hours, days, even years of commitment from students, parents, and directors, so thank you for your hard work and for making us proud! You can find a complete schedule on the MISD Fine Arts Calendar. Thank you to the Legacy High football players for showing their support for their classmate's performance! Good luck to both bands in the upcoming Area Competition.

Midland High School Volleyball is tied for first and Legacy High School Volleyball is in fourth place in the district heading into the final week of the season! The Midland High School Volleyball team hosts San Angelo Central High School tonight at 5:00, while Legacy High School Volleyball takes on Permian High School at 5:00. At Young Women's Leadership Academy, the team looks to finish their inaugural season with a winning season when they host Stanton at Carver Center at 6:00 Tuesday.

On the gridiron, the Bulldogs and Rebels are both in the think of the District 2-6A race. Midland High School hosts San Angelo Central High School tonight at 7:00, while Legacy High School faces Permian High School.

We had 16 athletes compete at the UIL Region I Cross Country meet in Lubbock on Monday. While we did not have any advance to State, we are proud of our cross country teams from Legacy High School and our two individual runners from Midland High. Congratulations on your season!

Swim and dive teams from both schools are competing today and tomorrow in San Angelo.

Boys golf teams from Midland High School and Legacy High School are on the links this weekend in Hobbs, while the girls' teams will play at Ratliff Ranch in Odessa.

We are committed to providing the best student experience for your child and appreciate you choosing Midland ISD. Have a great weekend!
