Meet Brad Keenan PARMA Member Spot Light
Tell me about how you became interested in the field of risk management?
My grandfather started Keenan & Associates in 1972. Since then, the company has grown to be the largest privately held insurance brokerage and risk management consulting firm in California, with a niche specialization in public entities. After interning at the company throughout college, I knew I would end up working there. The thought of growing my grandfather's legacy and company really struck a chord with me.

One part of risk management I thoroughly enjoy is looking into the future about emerging risks California public entities will face. Whether it is cyber, concussions, or the IoT (internet of things), the challenges yet to come are fun to prepare for. While my path into risk management is different than most, I still have a tremendous appreciation and respect for the risk management community.

What are the rewards you experience professionally by being a PARMA member?
PARMA, more than other associations I participate in, is about the professional development of its members. I'm lucky to have the opportunity to work with PARMA's leadership team to provide input on various items. During those experiences, it's apparent that PARMA wants to ensure its members are always gaining value from their educational sessions.

In addition to professional development, PARMA provides me with an excellent forum to meet and interact with other valuable members of the risk management community. PARMA and its members are on the cutting edge of what is taking place in risk management, so I'm always learning and developing my knowledge base when I attend their meetings.

  • Paul Zeglovitch
The official Nominating Committee report will be provided to the membership during the PARMA membership meeting, Monday, February 13 from 12:15 - 1:00 pm at the Disneyland ® Hotel.
Shaping the Future of Risk Management

During the PARMA Conference be sure to attend the session titled, Shaping the Future of Risk Management, scheduled February 13 from 3:45 - 5:00pm.  During this fast-paced interactive session, facilitated by Jim DeLizia, participants will be working together to explore:

  • What will risk management look like in 5-10 years?
  • What are the common skills and responsibilities of our members?
  • What will PARMA do to adapt to the challenges of our profession?
These are just a few of the questions that PARMA leadership is constantly exploring.   Your participant will help guide PARMA leaders to best understand the needs, interests, perceptions and expectations of risk management professionals, and provide insight into the future of risk management.  Session results will be used by the PARMA leadership during its strategic planning session in May and will help to set PARMA's goals and priorities over the next several years.
Calling All Future Leaders!

One goal of PARMA is to identify the next generation of leaders to carry the association into the future.  Risk management professionals who are interested in making a difference to help shape the future of the profession should consider putting your personal skills to work.

Start by supporting your local chapter There are so many areas that can use assistance; it doesn't have to be at a level that is beyond what you are able to commit.

The PARMA Conference provides the perfect opportunity to connect with chapter leaders to explore your options.  There are two ways to easily connect with the PARMA chapter leaders:
  1. Stop by the PARMA Booth #107 - The booth is staffed by volunteers who serve on a local chapter board.

  2. Attend the Chapter Breakfast - On Tuesday, February 14, the PARMA breakfast provides an opportunity to sit with members from your chapter area and connect with the chapter officers.
Take that opportunity to explore ways that you can get involved.  It's a rewarding way to give back to your profession and connect with your peers.
