Why is yellow the best color ever?
Interesting question, and I’m sure others with favorite colors would probably disagree, but I’m going to take a stab at why yellow is the best color ever!
I would start with the obvious…. yellow is bright and fun and usually things associated with it bring forth feelings of good will. Yellow is special because it is a primary color and on the spectrum of visible light, it falls between green and orange and is used to make other colors. For those of us familiar with the California State flower, we know it to be the bright yellow Golden Poppy. There are numerous reasons one would say yellow is the best color ever!
Many things are associated with yellow like:
- Sunshine
- Hope
- Fall tree leaves
- Happiness
- Energy
- Sunflowers
- Or grandma’s old kitchen.
Common foods readily affiliated with yellow:
- Bananas
- Lemons
- Honey
- Mustard
- Corn
- Butter
Certain regions of the world also share a meaning for yellow; in Japan it is the color of courage and bravery and in Africa it symbolizes wealth and status.
When relating the color to risk management, because, of course we want to bring this whole Q&A back around to meaningful information, I would say yellow is the best color because it is greatly used to denote caution! Many caution signs and emergency rescue vehicles all over the world are made using yellow color because as previously stated, it is the most visible color of the spectrum, has a high light reflectance value and can act as a secondary light source. When coupling this with standard meaning of caution, from a risk management perspective yellow is very much the best color ever!
I do hope I shined a light on the great question, “Why yellow is the best color ever!” Make sure to tune in to the next issue of “Ask Larry” news column.
