PART TWO: Cher and Holly Eat Barcelona ... It was Good

We made it to Barcelona! One and a half days in advance of our transatlantic cruise departure! So we got to spend that time eating tapas!! My favorite tapa was Gambas al Ajillo—Shrimp in Garlic—which comes in a shallow terra cotta bowl sizzling in delicious garlic oil. “GAMBAS GAMBAS GAMBAS,” became my mantra during these two days. I would not have bothered tasting anything else if Cher had not been more knowledgeable about Spanish tapas then myself, so her tastes were more varied. So we also had octopus of some kind, meatballs of some kind, toast of some kind, sausage of some kind—it was all DELICIOUS!! Our favorite tapas place had the WORST service. It infuriated us because the food was so good that of course we’d have to return again and again for further abuse because the tapas were so good.

It should be noted that, due to a minor health concern, Cher is under doctor’s orders not to drink alcohol for the time being. So I, Holly, had the huge burden of being her vicarious proxy in this regard. Not one to shy from a challenge, I magnanimously agreed to shoulder this burden and drink for the both of us. You’re welcome, Cher. The sangria was horrible(ly delicious).

Our last night in Barcelona happened to be the annual commencement of the “Lighting of the Christmas-Light Street-Lights Event Thing,” so the sidewalks suddenly became so crowded in anticipation of the festive illuminations that we could hardly traverse the crowd to make it back to the hotel. Or it could have just been me, Holly, having faithfully done my duty drinking sangria for Cheryl and I both, needing to be aggressively guided along.
