The presenter will be Steven Holko, a Senior with Ernst & Young in the Houston Assurance practice, who will be presenting on the Developments in Accounting and Reporting.


Steven Holko joined Ernst & Young in September 2021. He has 4 years of experience in public accounting serving a diverse portfolio of clients consisting of SEC registrants, private equity partnerships and LLCs in the oil and gas industry. Clients served range in life cycle and size from new start-ups to multi-national corporations. For the past 2 years, Steven developed and facilitated the Introduction to Oil and Gas trainings for new staff joining EY. Prior to joining Ernst & Young, Steven served as the Acquisition and Investment Coordinator for an independent oil and gas producer in Western New York for 4 years.

DescriptionDiscussion and Overview of developments in accounting and reporting. Key developments and updates include the FASB’s recently issued exposure draft on accounting for environmental credit programs, recent ESG and oil and gas reserves benchmarking data, as well as trends in SEC staff comment letters.

 

Learning Objective:

By the end of this presentation, you will be able to:

1. Discuss ongoing projects on the FASB’s agenda and relevant status updates, including the proposed accounting for environmental credit programs and potential considerations for oil and gas entities

2.  Share trends and observations from SEC staff comments that may affect oil and gas entities

3. Discuss trends in ESG and oil and gas reserves reporting based on company filings and disclosures

The Education committee continues to work on Spring Education Day and the annual Scholarship program.

 

Our next committee meeting will be on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 7pm via zoom. We are building our topics for Spring Education Day. If you have any suggestions, please let us know. Our goal is to have confirmation from Speakers before the end of the month since our event is 6 weeks earlier than the past years.

AUDIT COMMITTEE



We will be having a zoom meeting on 1/16/2025 to vote on the PRUTCOM changes as well as the meeting minutes from the Spring and Summer meetings. We were unable to meet the voting quorum requirement during the December meeting. The Zoom meeting invite will go out this week.

Small Oil and Gas Companies Committee is firming up details for its next lunch meeting on February 4th. Sarah Magruder, Founder and CEO of Savvy Oil and Gas Consulting, will be presenting on technical topics related to Severance Taxes.
