Tea Culture: Zunyi Maojian Green Tea | |
|
Zunyi is a city with a long history and a deep cultural heritage in China. It is also one of the major tea-producing areas in the country. Every spring, Zunyi city and many surrounding areas hold tea-picking activities to welcome the spring tea season.
Spring tea picking is an ancient tradition and a vital production activity. In Zunyi, tea picking usually takes place from late March to early May, which is the most ideal time to pick tender tea leaves. Sunny days are chosen for tea picking. It usually starts at around 6 a.m. to avoid tea leaves being affected by the sun's heat after it rises.
During tea picking, the pickers carefully select each tender leaf, usually picking two or three leaves and a bud. Tea leaves are quickly transported to the processing factory for production to ensure quality. At the same time, tea trees must be protected during the picking process to avoid damaging the tree trunk and leaves, in order to ensure yield and quality for the next year.

Green tea is rich in elements beneficial to health. Most tea farms are located at high altitude, low latitude, with less sunshine than normal. These create a favorable environment to produce high-quality tea
Lovers of Chinese tea are flocking to Guizhou province to enjoy the beautiful landscape of these vast tea farms and to sip a cup of refreshing fine green tea, a place whose tea history dates back 2,000 years.
Zunyi's spring tea is known for its freshness, sweetness, mellow taste, and clear soup color. The "Zunyi Maojian" tea, one of the "Top Ten Famous Teas in China," is picked here. Tea-picking activities attract many tourists for sightseeing and experience, but also bring substantial economic benefits to residents.
