Vermont/New Hampshire Combined State Meeting
The Vermont/New Hampshire combined State Meeting was held at the University of New Hampshire on October 23rd. The meeting was very well attended. There was a yoga on horseback demonstration led by Lorna Young, where participants could get horseback and try different poses to stretch muscles to increase circulation, open breathing passageways and increase range of motion.

Then Dave Bradham had participants assess three horses for motion and soreness they might be holding in their bodies. Each horse was given time with Dave to make adjustments to their body with some hands-on assistance from participants that wanted to help transfer energy to bring about a change in the horses. A pizza lunch was provided and then attendees listened to Cathy Smith-Hybels present the most recent findings with Goals Attainment Scaling and how it correlated to rider progress in TR sessions.

Anne Marie Savino has hopes of having Judy Cross-Strehlke do a clinic for the Vermont/New Hampshire state meeting next year. This clinic would hopefully be sponsored to keep costs down to participants. Judy would talk about disabilities and how to work with the body, in mounted demonstrations. Then do mounted lessons with persons with incapacities to further the lessons impact. Participants would have hands-on experience in each lesson portion as well as riding time.

Vermont-Horse Assisted Therapy just completed the second half of a combined program where students with anxiety and anger management issues spend six weeks engaged in unmounted activities, followed by six weeks of mounted lessons. VHAT's after-school program for eight students on the autism spectrum is in full swing; we'll be trail riding (with leaders) through our spectacular fall foliage next week. We love our amazing therapy horses: Rumor, Preview, Tante, Bella, Talat and Rigby!
