PATH Intl. Board of Trustees
|
|
PATH Intl. President Julie Broadway recently received the resignation of Richard Loomis from the PATH Intl. Board of Trustees. "We will miss his contributions, but sometimes life sends us in different directions," Broadway stated.
The bylaws offer the board chair the option to appoint someone to fill a vacancy, and after consulting the governance committee chairs and reviewing potential applicants, Broadway asked the board of trustees to support the appointment of Kim (Henning) Berggren, which they unanimously approved. Kim is a PATH Intl. Certified Advanced Instructor and education director at Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center, a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center in Augusta, MI. She is also an instructor evaluator, accreditation site visitor, past region 4 representative, past membership oversight committee chair, and current governance committee member. In her spare time, Kim has also worked in South Korea developing centers and instructors. "Kim brings a wealth of experience and knowledge," stated Broadway. "Please join me in welcoming Kim to the PATH Intl. Board of Trustees."

EQUUS Foundation Honors EAAT Horses
|
|
In the last eNews, we reported that Dancer, the 2016 PATH Intl. Equine of the Year from JoyRide Center, Inc., in Magnolia, TX. What we didn't realize at the time was that another PATH Intl. center's equine was also being inducted into the Horse Stars Hall of Fame on May 21, 2017, in New York.
Twin Pond Camotion (aka "Max") was an EAAT horse working with veterans at the Horses Helping Heroes Project, a PATH Intl. Member Center in Smithfield, VA. It was the veterans who wrote about Max that contributed to his being chosen for this honor.
In addition to joining the Horse Star Hall of Fame, he is also the subject of a chapter in a book entitled "Vets and their Pets" being released in late summer or early fall. The forward to this book was written by Barbara Bush.
Max's impact on the veterans who worked with him contributed to Horses Helping Heroes Project receiving the Spirit of Hope Award at a ceremony at the Pentagon last September. The award was presented by the Deputy Secretary of Defense. You can read more about this award and Max on the "About Us" page of the
center's website.

The EQUUS Foundation is a PATH Intl. Bronze Sponsor. Also known as Horse Charities of America, it is the only national charity in the United States solely dedicated to horse welfare and fostering the horse-human bond. We thank the EQUUS Foundation for its sponsorship of PATH Intl. and its recognition of the part equine-assisted activities and therapies play in the lives of so many equines who partner with those individuals with special needs.

Equine Tips From the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee

Equine Welfare and Decisions About Mounting and Dismounting
By Bonnie Cunningham, PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee Member As a physical therapist, I consider the transitioning of my patient on (mounting) and off (dismounting) the horse as part of my treatment session. Decisions about mounting are based on my patient's abilities and my therapy goals....these factors are geared toward the humans involved in the hippotherapy session, but the decision about the type of mount and dismount and where they occur is also very much an equine welfare issue. Considerations about the well-being of the horse always plays a prominent part in my mounting and dismounting decisions.

Amazon named San Antonio the "Most Romantic City in the U.S." based on the number of purchases of romance books, movies, and... other products.
At 750 feet, San Antonio's Tower of the Americas is taller than the famous Seattle Space Needle, making it the perfect place to get a panoramic view of the city.
San Antonio draws in 30 million visitors per year, most coming to see the Alamo mission. And when you come to the PATH Intl. conference, you will be one in 30 million! Save the date!
