Highlights
Secondary Traumatic Stress: The Dangers of Not Taking Care of Yourselves
Katherine Anne Scott
Secondary traumatic stress (STS) is a cluster of symptoms that can affect the mental health of the helping professional. There is limited research available about this with mental health clinicians, and none that has been published regarding therapeutic riding professionals. STS leads to empathy fatigue and burnout, higher levels of interpersonal conflict, and other negative outcomes. This presentation educates about STS and provides skills and ideas to help prevent and treat STS symptoms, should they arise. A live Q& A with Katherine will follow.

Five Roles of a Master Herder: Leadership Lesson for Equine Professionals
Lori Cohen
"The way of the horse" is experiential wisdom gained by studying the non-predatory power of horses. Horse-inspired insights have been developed into useful tools for encouraging collaborative leadership and managing change.

"Master Herders" (from nomadic herding cultures) have developed a multifaceted, socially intelligent form of leadership combining the five roles of Dominant, Leader, Sentinel, Nurturer / Companion, and Predator. An innovative assessment tool will be provided to help determine which roles you currently utilize, over emphasize or ignore. You will learn to recognize, cultivate and utilize all five roles in your programs, family and in other social avenues.
Rescheduling Workshop and Certification Events
In observance and support of the increased number of extended shelter-in-place and stay-at-home mandates, the association has made the decision to suspend all PATH Intl. on-site events through May 31, 2020. This primarily impacts workshop and certification events as all region conferences initially scheduled within this time frame have already been rescheduled.

Extensions will be granted to candidates impacted by this additional delay to on-site events. Please forward questions about extensions to Melissa Bryant.

We hope this news isn't a disheartening development. The decision to suspend on-site events has been made to support the health and success of candidates, faculty, center staff and the individuals they serve so that all may resume their invaluable activities as quickly as possible. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.Thank you for your patience as we navigate through this tough time together!
Reminder: Please Let Us Know How You're Doing! State of Our Industry Survey
PATH Intl. is requesting a check in from center administrators and individual members through taking a brief (Really, less than two minutes!) survey. The association's goal is to take a measurement of the current state of the industry during the quarantine. A summary of the collected data will be shared with members post analysis. The survey will remain open until Wednesday, April 22nd. THANK YOU!

Last Call for Center Renewal Grace Period Extended
In response to centers that had to suspend services due to the current situation, PATH Intl. will extend the member center grace period until April 30, 2020. Centers may also renew with a payment plan to reduce the immediate financial impact. Contact Karen Province at [email protected] for more information.  The center late fee and the payment plan fee have also been waived for centers during this difficult time.
Why I Belong
During these stressful times and difficult circumstances, we know it is important to keep positive. We asked members at region conferences and elsewhere to share why they belong to PATH Intl. We'll highlight some great responses in each PATH Intl. eNews and on social media!

Added for June 2020: CTRI Certification Exam Testing Window Secured
Recognizing that shelter-in-place and stay-at-home mandates currently prohibit many certified therapeutic registered instructor (CTRI) candidates from attending testing at PearsonVUE testing centers this month, the PATH Intl. Credentialing Council (PICC) is pleased to announce an additional CTRI certification exam testing window has been secured for June 21-28, 2020. CTRI candidates holding an authorization to test letter issued May 21st or earlier are eligible to register for the exam at any PearsonVUE testing center during the June testing window. If shelter-in-place/stay-at-home mandates continue to restrict movement of the vast majority of CTRI candidates into the second half of June, the PICC will explore shifting this additional window to a later date. The PICC will provide updates as pertinent.
Extended Unitl June 2021: Registered TRI Certification Program and CTRI Process
In recognition of challenges the COVID-19 virus has presented and may continue to present to PATH Intl. Registered Therapeutic Riding Instructor certification applicants and PATH Intl. centers, the PATH Intl. Credentialing Council and PATH Intl. have extended the availability of the PATH Intl. Registered Therapeutic Riding Instructor certification program through June 30, 2021. This means that registered instructor candidates in possession of an instructor in-training (IT) letter valid after January 1, 2020, will now have until June 30, 2021, to complete PATH Intl. Registered Therapeutic Riding Instructor certification. This extension also applies to completion of both on-site and video resubmissions, regardless of IT letter validity.

In tandem, the credentialing council has also extended the PATH Intl. CTRI credential transition process through June 30, 2021, to allow newly certified instructors to transition to the CTRI credential following successful registered instructor certification.
