PATH Intl. is pleased to announce it has joined the International Association of Human-Animal Interaction Organizations (IAHAIO). Its mission is to provide international leadership in advancing the field of human animal interaction. This is accomplished through research, education and collaboration among their membership, policy makers, clinical practitioners, other human animal interaction organizations and the general public. Its goals include new research, education, practice development, idea sharing, building collaborations and educating policy and decision makers about the benefits of human animal interactions.
Because their mission and many of their goals align so well with PATH Intl., because we are a leader in EAAT and IAHAIO is looking for a voice to represent the EAAT field, and because this exposes us to what is happening under the larger Human Animal Interaction umbrella including research, joining IAHAIO is in alignment with our partnership goal and beneficial to PATH Intl. and our membership.
If you would like information on IAHAIO, please
visit its website.
A benefit for current PATH Intl. members is that they will receive the IAHAIO member discount for the IAHAIO international conference, which this year is in Paris, France, July 11-13, 2016.

Equine Tips

Let Horses Be Horses By Jo Anne Miller, PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee Member
Equine Welfare. As a new member of the Equine Welfare Committee I ask myself, what is the definition? I have run a horse rescue and rehabilitation center since 2001, using our rescue horses in our PATH Intl. therapeutic riding programs. Our rescue is fully accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries as well as the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, great honors in the industry. But what does equine welfare really mean?

This month's post comes from the Administrative Community where a member asks:
Hi, I am looking for advice on things to consider when thinking about starting a small riding program. I have the opportunity to lease out a horse property where I would be able to operate a program, but I really need to have a realistic plan on what all it entails to start one up on my own. My thoughts are that I would lease about four horses for Spring, Summer and Fall and the owner would either take them back, or cover their board for the winter season. I would like to expand to hippotherapy and equine-assisted learning, but I really know nothing about either of those fields. Any information from others who have started out on their own is greatly appreciated!
