Equine Tips From the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee
Current Management Recommendations for Equine Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (Formerly Equine Cushings)
By Ashley Phelps, DVM, Chair of the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee
Equine Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID) is commonly diagnosed in horses older than 15 years of age, although it can be found in horses as young as 7 years of age. Clinical signs are due to an overproduction of hormones from the pituitary gland as it enlarges. Clinical signs can vary due to the stage of the disease. Read more

Still Time to Register for Third Special Education Presentation
This series was designed for special education teachers to heighten awareness of EAAT and the crucial role PATH Intl. Member Centers and Professionals play in the industry and to facilitate connections between them.

Topics covered in "Riding Through Transition" will cover how to meet transition needs of youths within your program, highlight advantages to creating a transition program at your center and examine important considerations in executing your own program.  The presenter in this three-part series is PATH Intl. Certified Registered Instructor and University of Oklahoma Zarrow Center for Learning Enrichment doctoral scholar, Andrea Suk, M.S.Ed.

If you were not able to attend the first or second presentations in the series, you can still access the material! Both recordings are available free of charge in the online store.

Driving Certification Program Update
Effective January 1, 2018, the PATH Intl. Driving Certification Subcommittee and Certification Oversight Committee approved separation of the driving workshop and certification. All driving certification candidates will now be required to have a minimum of 60 days between completion of the driving workshop and certification. The reasons for this decision are rooted in supporting preparation and success of candidates. Due to the nature of therapeutic driving activities, an enormous amount of information must be delivered in the workshop. There continues to be an increase in candidates with minimal experience instructing individuals with disabilities applying to the certification program, and the workshop provides critical information that they have had little or no introduction to. Without adequate time to process and apply the concepts taught in the workshop, candidates have struggled to meet the criteria for certification. This has led to increased instances of resubmission and, as a result, increased expense for candidates. In an effort to support the success of candidates with various backgrounds and reduce financial impact to candidates, the updated program design includes built-in time for candidates to practice application of workshop concepts.

Refer to the updated driving instructor level I certification booklet for information regarding certification program requirements. Please contact Bret Maceyak, Credentialing Supervisor, with any questions about the updated process.
