Snakebites in Humans and Horses
By Jenny Nell Hartung, PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee Member
I live in the wild, wild west (also known as Wyoming) and have had to learn out of necessity about venomous snakes and horse-keeping. In Wyoming, and almost all over the country, there are potentially dangerous snakes hiding in the very grass your horse is happily munching. The long hot days of summer bring an increased snakebite risk to all animals. Read more

PATH Intl. Disaster Relief Fund--Did You Know?
|
|
Since its inception the PATH Intl. Disaster Relief Fund has helped provide relief to member centers that have experienced loss from fires, floods, damage from snow, etc. One center's staff actually submitted their application with photos of live fish in their tack room! Hopefully you'll never need it, but if you do,eligibility is briefly outlined below and more details, including the application, are available here.
The funds are only made possible by generous donations from members and others. And the amount available for distribution depends on the amount in the fund. More funding equals more relief.
Please consider making a donation to help PATH Intl. Member Centers pull through the worst of times so they will be able to help participants and equines enjoy the best of times. Click here to make a donation.
Eligibility for Fund Distribution: Disasters within the scope of the PATH Intl. Disaster Relief Fund are those natural occurrences (e.g., hurricane, earthquake, tornado, flood, fire, drought) or negligent, intentional or criminal acts of man, that cause catastrophic loss having a direct and substantial adverse financial impact on a PATH Intl. Member Center in good standing. A federal or state disaster declaration is dispositive proof that a disaster has occurred within a defined geographic area.

Field Test Standards Electronic Voting
|
|
As a reminder, again this year field test standards will be voted on electronically rather than at the PATH Intl. Conference and Annual Meeting. As PATH Intl. continues to grow, the association wants to take advantage of every opportunity, including social media and other electronic means, to listen to and keep in touch with our members. An electronic vote gives every member a chance to participate. Electronic voting will open July 1-14, 2017.
For information on the standards in field test, click here. Watch your email for an informational webinar coming later this week.

Online Education Opportunities for CEUs
|
|
PATH Intl. launched two new online courses this past spring in addition to the excellent line-up of available courses.
"I love the online courses! They are a great way to continue your education, develop your career, and meet professionals from the EAAT industry all from the comfort of your own home. It is a great, affordable way to learn and make contacts in the industry."
A PATH Intl. Spinal Cord Injury, Paralysis & EAAT Online Course Attendee
Participants with ASD are the most common individuals receiving services at PATH Intl. Member Centers. This course contains a wealth of information about ASD and how it may impact participants involved in EAAT programs.
More than 450 PATH Intl. Member Centers are currently serving youth-at-risk. For instructors serving youth who have experienced trauma, abuse and neglect, this course aims to describe how trauma may affect EAAT participants and guide instructors on how to develop a trauma-informed approach to EAAT.
