Patrick Mullins
1937-2017
It is with great sadness that we share with you that Pat Mullins passed away on May 28th after a car accident. Mr. Mullins was known to many PATH Intl. Members as the warm welcoming smile with the white hair and southern accent in the Markel Insurance hospitality suite at the international conferences. He was a lot more than that. A tireless proponent of EAAT, Pat was the driving impetus decades ago behind insurance underwriters considering writing policies that covered EAAT.
Pat served on the PATH Intl. Board of Trustees from 2000-2006 and held the president title from 2003-2005. In 2008, PATH Intl. awarded Pat the James Brady Professional Achievement Award for his contributions to EAAT and PATH Intl. After the passing of Pat's wife Jackie in 2010, he established the PATH Intl. Pat and Jackie Mullins International Conference Scholarship Fund. This generous endeavor reflected his ongoing commitment to providing quality education for PATH Intl. members.
Services for the remembrance and celebration of Pat's life will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21st, at McLean Bible Church, in the Smith Center, 8925 Leesburg Pike, Vienna, VA 22182. Reception to follow outside the Smith Center.
Pat's express wishes were to have a service that was a celebration and that attendees would try to laugh and tell some funny stories. Per his request, in lieu of flowers, contributions to the PATH Intl. Pat & Jackie Mullins International Conference Scholarship Fund will be greatly appreciated. Contributions can be accepted at: PATH Intl, P.O. Box 33150, Denver, CO 80233.
Pat is mourned and missed by so many. Please join us in remembering this special man, celebrating how many lives he touched and the impact he had on the EAAT field.

Past Award Winner Announced as Conference Keynote Speaker
What would you do if your life as you know it, your future hopes and dreams were shattered by a devastating diagnosis? How would you choose to live in the face of adversity?
PATH Intl. is pleased to announce that Cara Yar Khan, the "rebel with a cause," will speak at the 2017 PATH Intl. Conference and Annual Meeting keynote lunch on Friday, November 10. Join us as she shares her story, where passion finds purpose in the most unlikely of places.
Cara, a proud Canadian and an exceptional speaker, has spent most of the past 17 years fundraising for the humanitarian agencies of the United Nations, especially UNICEF. At the age of 30, she was diagnosed with a rare muscle wasting condition; but she uses this struggle as a source of strength. In 2014 Cara began to ride at Chastain Horse Park, a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center in Atlanta, GA. PATH Intl. recognized her as the 2015 Adult Equestrian of the Year.

Equine Tips From the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee
Heat Stress, Electrolytes and Salt
By Molly Sweeney, PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee Member
Did you know that horses feel heat much worse than we do? According to Michael Lindinger, PhD, MSc, an animal and exercise physiologist at the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, a horse's temperature can raise to dangerous levels three to ten times faster than in humans. A simple Heat Index to measure heat stress is to simply add the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit to the percentage of humidity and subtract the wind speed.

PATH Intl. Virtual Conference: A Successful Launch
It's official. The first ever PATH Intl. Virtual Conference is in the books. A big thank you to everyone who participated, making this conference a tremendous success. More than 200 people participated, including several non-members, and 24 centers.
Melissa Abbey said, "Here's my seat for the first ever PATH Intl. Virtual Conference!" Perfect seat!
A popular feature was the ability to chat with other session attendees and the presenter. One attendee said, "It was far more interactive than I expected. The initial greetings from all across the country were wonderful!"
"Absolutely beneficial in so many ways. The information
was so helpful, and the convenience of being able to
do it from wherever is invaluable."
The virtual conference consisted of 10 total hour-long educational sessions delivered over two days by a variety of expert speakers. The sessions were recorded and will be available for purchase individually soon. Watch for details.
"I am not able to attend national conferences very often
or at all so this was a great resource and help in
allowing me to get some CEUs. The networking
was also amazing."

Online Education Opportunities for CEUs
PATH Intl. is launching two new online courses this spring in addition to the excellent line-up of available courses.
Participants with ASD are the most common individuals receiving services at PATH Intl. Member Centers. This course contains a wealth of information about ASD and how it may impact participants involved in EAAT programs.
More than 450 PATH Intl. Member Centers are currently serving youth-at-risk. For instructors serving youth who have experienced trauma, abuse and neglect, this course aims to describe how trauma may affect EAAT participants and guide instructors on how to develop a trauma-informed approach to EAAT.

Field Test Standards Electronic Voting
As a reminder, again this year field test standards will be voted on electronically rather than at the PATH Intl. Conference and Annual Meeting. As PATH Intl. continues to grow, the association wants to take advantage of every opportunity, including social media and other electronic means, to listen to and keep in touch with our members. An electronic vote gives every member a chance to participate. Electronic voting will open July 1-14, 2017.
For information on the standards in field test, click here. Watch your email for an informational webinar coming soon.
Please make sure that your email address is current with PATH Intl., and that it is not a generic address (such as director@ or info@). These email addresses are often marked as spam and are deleted from our mailing lists. Yahoo and Gmail both offer free email addresses, and sign-up is easy.
