 The 2016 PATH Intl. Conference and Annual Meeting, presented by title sponsor Purina, will be November 2-5 in Williamsburg, VA. Registration will open in early July, and the registration book will be included with the summer issue of
PATH Intl. Strides. The conference sessions, workshops, special events and networking are not to be missed. Included in your registration is the keynote address on Thursday with Col. Gregory Gadson. Decorated Army veteran, actor, motivational speaker and former equine-assisted activities and therapies participant, Col. Gadson's keynote address will have all of us saying "Huzzah!"
Colonel Gregory D. Gadson, USA (retired), served in the United States Army for more than 26 years. Col. Gadson's life is a portrait of courage in the face of great adversity. In May 2007, as commander of the 2nd Battalion, 32nd Field Artillery, Col. Gadson's greatest challenge came in Iraq, where an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack cost him both legs above the knees and normal use of his right arm and hand. Despite this, Gadson remained on active duty in the Army and continued to inspire many with his message of courage, perseverance, determination and teamwork.
Col. Gadson was a regular participant
at the Caisson Platoon Equine Assisted Programs at the Ft. Myer military base in Virginia, where he was instructed by Mary Jo Beckman, Navy Commander (retired) and founder (with Larry Pence, Command Sergeant Major, US Army, retired) of the Caisson Platoon Equine Assisted Programs.

PATH Intl. Disaster Relief Fund

The saying "when it rains, it pours" has never been more true than in Texas this year. Just when PATH Intl. was able to disburse disaster relief money to Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch, a premier accredited center in Spring, TX, that had been damaged with flooding, another round of severe storms and flooding hit Inspiration Ranch again. When it rains, it pours.
To help your fellow member centers that have been damaged through flooding, tornadoes and other catastrophes, please consider donating to the PATH Intl. Disaster Relief Fund.

Feeding the Horse's Topline

"What's your formula for setting weight limits" is a question I hear often. Please consider your horse's topline, which includes his spine, the muscles and nerves along the spine. In my mind each horse needs his own weight limit based on his body condition score and muscling. The percentage of muscle and flesh covering the horse needs to be assessed regularly. This score can change from month to month as work, weather and riders vary. Factors affecting your horses' body, both the type of and location of both muscle and fat include age, workload, lack of or incorrect exercise, turn out, poor saddle fit and diet. Read more.

Would anyone be willing to allow me to review their budgets for driving/ riding or vaulting programs? I am in the process of a startup and was curious as to how much other programs have spent and what areas they focused on. I understand the information will be different for each area (we are in Wyoming). I am mainly looking to get an idea to build the budget from there and make sure I included everything.

Nominations Open for Thoroughbred of the Year

The Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program is accepting applications for the T.I.P. Thoroughbred of the Year Award through June 30, 2016. This award will recognize a Thoroughbred that has excelled in a non-competitive career, such as EAAT or police work. The award includes a $5,000 grant to the nonprofit organization associated with the horse or, if not associated with a nonprofit organization, to a horse-related charity chosen by The Jockey Club.
