Bid on an Equicizer for Your Center!
We are pleased to announce that Equicizer has renewed their pewter-level sponsorship of the PATH Intl. Conference and will once again donate a Classic Equicizer to be auctioned prior to the annual banquet. This is an excellent opportunity to get one for your center, so come prepared to bid. Thank you, Equicizer!

Conference Highlights
We know how important equine care is to our PATH Intl. Member Centers. Several sessions at the horse expo on Saturday will help you keep your center horses healthy and happy. Melinda Freckleton, DVM, will present PPID: An Up-to-Date Review of Equine Cushing's Disease to help you determine which horses might be affected and what to do about it. Yoga for the Horse with Amy Sheets and Michelle La Fleur, and Lungeing the Program Horse for Fitness, Training and Teaching with Marci Bender will show attendees techniques for keeping program horses fit, strong and supple. There will be time to have fun as attendees learn to engage the imagination to accomplish lesson objectives in Implementing Creative Imagery Into the Therapeutic Riding Lesson Plan with Mindy Stanley, or participate in interactive vaulting in Come Play With Us with Sandy Webster and the Region 11 Ruff n Tumblers.

Exhibit at the Conference

Do you have a product equine professionals would be interested in purchasing? Educational materials, books, videos and jewelry are all great possibilities for selling to the 700+ therapeutic horsemanship professionals we expect to see at the 2014 PATH Intl. Conference, October 29-November 1 in San Diego. 96% of 2013 conference survey respondents said they will contact one or more exhibitors. Exhibiting pays off!

For more information, email Megan Ferry or call her at (800) 369-7433, ext. 107.

Equine Tips From the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee
Creating a Space for Healthy Behaviors: Equine Habitat Expansion Project
By Jayna Wekenman, Member of the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee

Spirit and Apollo nibble on the leaves of a mesquite tree, pause, look across the wash and continue to nibble, this time on tufts of grass. Coy steps carefully, navigating rocks and hilly terrain. Chocolate Heart and Bridget take turns following one another into unfamiliar areas; for a short time, they pay more attention to their surroundings than to each other.

The new turnout space around the barn has been completed for one week and is already enriching the horses and donkeys at Cottonwood Tucson. The space creates both opportunity and reason for the horses and donkeys to engage in equine-specific behaviors. Engaging in equine-specific behaviors is believed to support sustainable holistic wellness by off-setting physical and emotional burnout. Read more

Donations Needed to Rename Award After Paul Spiers

Paul Spiers Dr. Paul Spiers, who served as PATH Intl. Board of Trustees President from 2006 to 2008, was an accomplished rider and a polo enthusiast. After an injury in 1994 while on a hunt, Paul used a wheelchair and rehabilitated in part at Windrush Farm Therapeutic Equitation, Inc., a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center in North Andover, MA.

Paul, who passed away September 2013, had a great passion for PATH Intl. and championed its programs and initiatives in helping individuals to overcome challenges and gain independence. To honor Paul Spier's passion for therapeutic horsemanship, his friends are working to name the PATH Intl. Independent Adult Equestrian of the Year Award in his name in perpetuity. To date, $3,150 has been raised, and we need $5,000 by September 10 to name the award (only $1,850 to go!). Please join us and donate today
