Come Rain or Come Shine: PATH Intl. Conference and Annual Meeting Information
Conference logo
We know people have wondered about the conference and whether or not it is still a go. Good news is "Yes!" The conference will go on as planned. San Antonio is approximately two hours west of Houston, not close enough to have sustained damage from Hurricane Harvey. Please join  us for the excellent education sessions and networking at the 2017 PATH Intl. Conference and Annual Meeting , November 8-11, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas, presented by title sponsor Purina.

cover of registration book Early Bird Registration
We realize that with many members facing hurricanes and flooding, and other members dealing with fires and smoke, conference registration may not have been in the forefront of people's minds. So PATH Intl. is extending the early bird registration through September 22, and at $450 it is the lowest price in a decade! Register before September 22 and save $100 off the member fee ($135 off the member onsite fee). Click here to register online. Or click here to download the registration book. Then complete the form and fax, email or mail it in.

Hotel Information - Reserve Now!
While PATH Intl. has reserved a room block at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk, many hotel rooms in the San Antonio area being booked in advance for cleanup operations in Houston (two hours away). Because of that, we may not be able to get overflow rooms at the discount rate if we sell out. Please reserve your room as soon as possible.  Click here to book now or call (888) 421-1442 and identify yourself as being with PATH Intl. to secure the discounted hotel rate. Click here for general conference information. Also consider booking a flight and reserving a rental car as soon as possible to account for possible fuel cost increases.

Transportation to Horse Expo
Due to hurricane recovery efforts, there will not be as many buses available for PATH Intl. use. However, there is plenty of complimentary parking at the Kendall County Youth Agriculture & Equestrian Center, the site of the 2017 PATH Intl. Horse Expo. It is just under an hour away from the hotel. We encourage attendees when possible to drive themselves to the horse expo. Please note on your registration form whether you will need transportation.

We Want Your Videos!
Gain notoriety and bragging rights by showing conference attendees the great time had by all at your center. Showing the videos has been a huge hit in past years! The conference host committee will judge and select the top videos to show throughout the conference. We aren't looking for promotional videos, but rather the videos that highlight your center's staff, instructors, participants and equines having a great time. Click here for an example from Colby's Army, a PATH Intl. Member Center in Nashville, TN, the big winner from last year.

Email your videos to Cher Smith. For larger video files, mail a CD or flashdrive, or email Cher for Dropbox instructions. Note: We need the actual video, not a YouTube or Vimeo link. Submissions must be sent by September 15 to allow time for judging. Please include a photo/video release form with submission. And have fun!

Need a Roommate?
If you are interested in sharing a room at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk for the conference, email Cher Smith with your contact information to put your name on the list. You can access the list on the Members Only page of the PATH Intl. website (you will need to be signed in). NOTE: PATH Intl. will not match up conference attendees but only supply the information.
Help for Hurricane Harvey Victims
Hurricane Harvey broke rainfall records in the continental United States. People were evacuated, and the lives of humans and animals were impacted. Wonder what youcan do to help?

First, consider making a donation to the PATH Intl. Disaster Relief Fund. This fund assists PATH Intl. Member Centers with an immediate need in funding expenses not normally covered by operating insurance after natural disasters. You can donate here: https://goo.gl/aDJ7VK. Thousands of dollars have already been raised, and for that we thank you.

Second, if you have supplies or horse-related items you would like to donate to a Texas center in need, please post that information on the Region 8 Event page on Facebook. If you are an affected center with specific needs, post that information as well. Connect with others to arrange details. There are many good places working to gather donations for Texas centers, and the Facebook page is an easy way to organize the donations.
Equine Tips From the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee
Join the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee for a Full Day of Preconference Equine-Centered Workshops

All year long, the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee has been writing bi-monthly tips on topics to interest, inform, amuse and/or challenge PATH Intl. eNews readers. Their mission is to share clear, compassionate communication with humans and the horses in their care, promoting optimal health and well-being for body, mind and spirit. The committee is excited to have the opportunity to interact directly with PATH Intl. Members at the upcoming PATH Intl. Conference in November, and what better venue than San Antonio, Texas, land of the Alamo and the horse-infused culture of the old West.

PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee Co-Chairs Marcie Ehrman and Jo Anne Miller, along with most of the committee members, are proud to be presenting the Equine Welfare Preconference Workshop on Wednesday, November 8, which will be a full day of interactive presentations on many aspects of the welfare of horses in the EAAT industry. Click here to read more about the preconference workshop.

Check out this new opportunity to connect with the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee! Follow this link to engage in a discussion with members of this committee and other PATH Intl. members regarding this eNews Tip.
Committee Updates and Highlights
Many individuals volunteer to offer their talents to further the mission of PATH Intl. Some are involved in committees or task forces over several years; others volunteer for a project that may take days or weeks. All are of value to the success of the association. Beginning with this PATH Intl. eNews, we would like to highlight the efforts and accomplishments of our dedicated members. Toward the ongoing goal of helping centers and individuals understand the great value of their PATH Intl. membership, the Programs and Standards Committee would like to periodically highlight what a committee or task force has done that directly benefits our centers, professionals and the EAAT industry.

Faculty Development Task Force
Pat McCowan, Chair
In November of 2010, six dedicated volunteers began their work as the first members of the PATH Intl. Faculty Development Task Force. They were charged with reviewing and recommending processes and procedures to develop and train accreditation and certification faculty members. The task force then began seven years of work that included membership surveys; documentation of current faculty member lists and processes; recommendations to ensure quality and consistency; and finally, the creation of new systems, processes and forms. Thanks to the hard work of many volunteers and PATH Intl. staff members, we are now sharing the results with you. Read more
