Scouts, Scouters, & Units to Watch
A new segment to our weekly newsletter will be "Scouts, Scouters, & Units to Watch" Our hope is to focus on a Scout, Scouter or Unit that is doing something great or just would like to let the world know how great they are. So we need your help finding Scouts, Scouters, & Units to write about. So, please send us your stories or suggestions to Longhouse@scouting.org and see your story in next weeks newsletter.
Our firsts Scout to watch is Emily Mocyk. Emily is a senior at Jordan-Elbridge High School, and a founding member of Troop 1G in Towpath District. Having been in the hospital when very young, she received a special blanket that she said helped her through that difficult time.
Emily still has this blanket and when it came time to choose an Eagle project she decided to pay forward that gift. Her Eagle project is focused around planning and leading a group to make fleece blankets for young hospital patients.
Emily joined a Venture Crew in 2017 earning the Venturing rank and served as crew Vice President. She attended National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) in 2017 and NYLT Leadership Academy in 2018, and was on staff for the LHC 2018 NYLT course, Emily then joined Scouts BSA Troop 1G in 2019.
Emily has served in Troop 1G as Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and is currently the Senior Patrol Leader. She has attended Goose Pond Scout Reservation with Crew 66 and Babcock-Hovey Scout Camp and a unit Scout Camp with Troop 52/1G.
She returned to staff both the NYLT Leadership Academy and the NYLT course in 2019.
Emily will be staffing NYLT as a co-ASPL of Troop Guides this summer.
In school Emily was a Drum Major in band and did flags for Winter Guard in high school.
She is also an avid hunter and works at Kinney Drugs.
We look forward to seeing Emily reach the rank of Eagle Scout. She is truly a Scout to watch.
