Last month, our Friday kennel volunteers noticed that Maple, our lovable "wild-child," a sweet terrier pit bull mix, was lethargic and not as energetic as usual. On Saturday, a volunteer called to report that Maple was having difficulty breathing.
Our Animal Care Team came in on a Saturday night and rushed her to the Emergency Vet. At the vet, she was admitted and put on a breathing tube because lesions on her tongue and swelling in her throat were making it difficult for her to breathe on her own. X-rays and bloodwork came back normal, with no obvious signs of what was wrong. After an anxious 12 hours, there was some good news - the breathing tube was removed, and she started breathing comfortably, albeit while being kept sedated.
The vet determined that Maple had contracted some sort of virus. Fortunately, none of our other dogs were infected. After being released from the Emergency Vet,
Maple was sent to foster care, where she is currently receiving all the TLC she needs to recover. Her foster mom reports that she is continuing to heal and improving every day.
We are thankful for the quick response of the attentive volunteers who ensured Maple got the care she needed, as well as for the foster family who has taken on the responsibility for her recovery.
However, Maple still needs your help! Her emergency care cost over $6,000. Can you make a donation to help cover her care and ensure that we continue to have the resources to respond to emergency cases like this?
