Meet Rico, an eleven-year-old sweetheart with the biggest smile!

This brave boy could probably write a book on overcoming adversity if he had opposable thumbs! Here’s his inspiring story:

Rico was found abandoned in a trailer, along with two other dogs and two cats. It’s anyone’s guess how long he lived this way.

While our kennel was a big improvement for him, we soon discovered that Rico faced two more challenges - heartworm and Lyme disease. Thankfully, a compassionate volunteer offered to foster him during treatment and recovery. His foster mom was quickly rewarded with a face full of kisses and a lap full of American Bulldog!

Rico is now back in the kennel in good health and ready to start the next chapter of his life in a home that will love and cherish him. Could that home be yours?

Your support helps us to care for animals like Rico, providing above-and-beyond rescue care to animals with extra medical needs.

One of the January 2024 recipients of our Above and Beyond Rescue Care awards was Lisa Jo Clark.

The person that nominated Lisa Jo told us: “Lisa Jo Clark has been a dedicated kennel volunteer for many years. Not only does she volunteer with the dogs, but she has the unofficial title of being our webmaster. She designed our website and makes sure that it is kept up-to-date and looking good! Lisa Jo also designs new pages as requested for events such as Barkapalooza and Pawction. She also serves on our marketing committee and designs all of our pride and advocacy merchandise. Lisa Jo exemplifies what it means to be an Above and Beyond volunteer!

Another January 2024 recipient of our Above and Beyond Rescue Care awards was Stephanie Nordlund.

The person that nominated Stephanie told us: “Stephanie Nordlund serves our cats and dogs in so many ways. She is a foster parent to both cats and dogs – sometimes coming to the shelter with very little notice in an emergency situation. She volunteers at the shelter on multiple shifts each week, and is a key part of our social media and marketing team. She led our expansion into a TikTok channel, and is part of our social media team. Stephanie is willing to help wherever needed; always putting the needs of our animals first. She truly goes above and beyond for our shelter!"
