NOVEMBER 2024

PAWESOME NEWS

YOUR DONATIONS AT WORK!

Meet Alfred, who came to us when his owner could no longer care for him. This 15-year-old poodle mix is in foster care right now, but waiting for his forever home! He needed a lot of dental work when he arrived, and he is SO MUCH happier now that he has had his medical needs attended to!

November is Adopt a Senior Pet month, so we wanted to showcase this special senior. While many people may overlook older dogs in favor of puppies or younger animals, senior dogs have a lot to offer and make fantastic companions. And by adopting a senior dog, you are not only gaining a new family member, but you are also providing a loving home for an animal that might otherwise have a harder time finding one.

Don't miss out on the chance to meet this adorable seniors and start making unforgettable memories together!

Looking for some new WSHS gear? We are excited to offer our new merchandise store. As in the past, you have to purchase from each ‘campaign’ separately, as they print and ship from different locations. We are excited about the variety of options, including a cool 90’s theme design, a cardigan, knit hats, as well as our WSHS logo on traditional shirts and sweatshirts. Sales will close in TWO WEEKS (11/25), with shipping before Christmas. Happy shopping!!!

Shop at Hugo Boss in Oakbrook Center on Saturday, November 16, and 10% of your purchase will be donated to West Suburban Humane Society!

GOODBYE, AND WELCOME!

As you may have heard, this will be the last "Pawesome News" that you will receive under my signature, as I have made the decision that it is time to retire (although you will still find me at WSHS events, as either a guest or a volunteer!) I wanted to thank all of our volunteers and donors (and of course our staff) for the amazing support you provide for our animals, our events, and our programs. We could not do it without you!

I would like to introduce you to WSHS' new Director of Development, Zoe McGrath:

Zoe comes to us from Shelter, Inc., and brings experience in fundraising, grant writing, social media, volunteer management, and building community partnerships.

Zoe tells us: "I am thrilled to be the new Director of Development at the West Suburban Humane Society! It is exciting to join an amazing organization dedicated to the wellbeing of vulnerable cats and dogs in our community. I look forward to managing frontline fundraising efforts to support such an important cause."

Kick off the holiday season by joining us for our annual Pawction event at the WSHS adoption center. This fun-filled evening will include tacos, beer and wine, along with some fun games!

While you don't have to be present to bid on our auction, why join us at the shelter to browse the auction catalog in person and meet some of the adorable and adoptable cats and dogs we are raising money for!

Questions? Contact Hailey Nicewanner, Development & Events Coordinator at events@wshs-dg.org

We are also looking for donations to help our auction. We like to have a variety of items, but here are some examples of items that typically do well:

  • Wine & Spirits
  • Restaurant Gift certificates
  • Theater tickets
  • Sporting tickets
  • Vacation getaways (our top item last year was a Colorado getaway)
  • Gift cards of $25 or more

Giving Tuesday is coming, and this year you can DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT for our cats and dogs!

We are excited to share that all donations will be matched by the Summer Oaks Fund (up to $20,000 total). That means you can help twice as many of our animals, which is important, as our adoptions have increased by 25% for the first nine months of the year, which means 25% more spay/neuter procedures, 25% more microchips, 25% more vaccinations, 25% more heartworm, flea and tick preventions, and more!
