February Adoptions

There were 98 pets who found their way into the hearts and homes of a new family in February!  We love sharing our adoption numbers with you and hope they continue to grow!
Friendship Pet Memorial Park

Our wonderful friends at Friendship Pet Memorial Park presented the Humane Society of Charles County with a donation of $250.00 on February 9, 2016.  Every year around the holidays Friendship Pet Memorial Park sponsors a Pet Christmas Tree of Remembrance. A $6.00 donation places a ribbon with the name of a deceased pet on the tree. This provides families an opportunity to honor a beloved pet and also donate to a good cause.

March Volunteer Orientation

For those new volunteers that have received your acceptance letters-make sure you have received your new true blue T-Shirt with the Humane Society logo and the most important wording on the back "VOLUNTEER"!  Stop by soon to purchase yours today if you haven't yet done so.

March Pets of the Month - Romeo & Beetlejuice

O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

We've got him, right here at our shelter. A gorgeous red Doberman Pincer who is just over 5 years old. This energetic boy needs a calm master to provide with him structure, exercise, discipline and affection, all in that order!  Do you know of someone looking for a handsome young Doberman? Well tell them to look no further than HSCC!Romero is up to date on all of his shots, is neutered and reader for a new home

Beetlejuice, a very sweet loving three year old medium haired grey cat is currently waiting for someone to say her name 3 times so she can appear in your home!  She is reliably litter box trained, loves being held, groomed and is great around other cats.  She's waiting to meet you so you will fall in love with her just like we have!

Please contact the Humane Society of Charles County at 301-645-8181 if you would like to meet either of these two wonderful pets and make them a family member!

Overnight Foster Families Make a Difference!
If you are not able to adopt, another way you can help our shelter animals is overnight fostering! We have an overnight foster program that gets the animals out of the shelter for a little while while we are closed to the public.  Simply pick them up each night near closing time and have them back at the shelter the next morning by 11am.  You may also foster an animal Sunday night through Tuesday morning since we are closed to the public on Mondays.
This is advantageous for our animals in many ways. It gives them a break from being in their kennels, they get to spend time getting loved on which rejuvenates them and helps them get adopted faster, and it also begins to transition them from shelter life to a life in a forever home. Our overnight fosters also provide valuable information about the animals for potential adopters.
It's an easy two-step process to get approved to foster. Fill out an application, then have a short interview with our foster care director.  After that, you are approved to foster whenever you would like. It's as simple as that... But be forewarned, some of our foster families have become "foster failures" which means they ended up falling in love with their overnight foster and adopting them!
